Basically I am a tall guy that likes to fight on the outside and use footwork and speed to stay away from my opponents. The other day I sparred against somebody who was taller and faster and had the same style. It was extremely difficult because I was trying to box him like I usually box fighters. I've been working on boxing like a small guy just in case I come across this style in a tournament. My trainers were saying that I was going to low but I was using my legs at all times and I felt I had good vision and with my speed I was able to avoid the blows in my last sparring session. Is it really too dangerous to be too low? What are the advantageous and disadvantageous? Do you have any examples that I can look up on YOuTube? Are there any other alternatives I can use to fight a taller faster fighter who likes being on the outside where I can have good positioning and not get hit? I am an amateur so I need to score points!!!

You can win. You say 'box the way I usually box'... DON'T BOX THAT WAY! Going into a fight, you NEED to have 3 or 4 plans. Start boxing south paw to get used to it. If you find yourself in danger, switch leftie. If you are comfortable with leftie, you can switch off into that position and throw them off. If you are getting beat on the outside, ZOOM IN THERE and FIGHT him. If he gets complacent beating you outside, RUSH HIM and HURT him. Then try your old style again. If it doesn't work, swarm him. Check this out, if your game is not working for you, take him OUT of his game. If you learn new styles, you can pull him out of his game and you can control the fight. Naseem Hamed was not a "great", but what he was great at was his ability to take a guy out of his game. You going too low may sap power from your legs if you are TOO low. If you take power from your legs, you take power from your punch. Also, find boxing matches of guys with that style that beat you. Figure out how they lose. Figure out why YOU lost. If this particular guy fights like you, think of where you are weak, and use that against HIM, while learning to cover those weaknesses. MOST IMPORTANTLY!!! Do NOT let him or ANYONE in your head. If you lose, it takes NOTHING away from your past achievements. You show me a fight that has never lost, I'll show you one that has never been in a real competition. Losing means nothing, it's how you come back FROM the loss that will make you.

You will eventually run into fighters who simply box better than you. When that happens it's gut check time and to beat them you have to brawl, even if it's not your perferred style. Fight a boxer, box a fighter is usally the correct format.
