Should I contact local or national government?
Is there a lobbie group I can contact?
Is the recycling of plastic environmentally sound or does the recycling process create more emissions and or waste than it saves? What about the energy used to recycle, is it less than creating new products. So many things are now not avalable with out plastic wappers, is it viable to go back to using paper/glass etc or are the processes used to make these /recycle these as destructive as the use of plastics?
What is best?

There are plenty of plastic recycling facilities.

I don't know where you live but I have a separate bin that is collected that is for plastic to be recycled.

Unfortunately, it is true that as a nation GB is awful at recycling. A big reason for this is that it is smelly and noisy to do. With so many people shouting NIMBY (not in my back-yard) it is difficult to site these facilities.
Besides that, it is expensive and uses a lot of energy to do, in the end there is no real benefit. Often the waste is packed into storage containers and shipped off to China to be recycled....
What a mad country we live in!

i have two bins one for rubbish and one for recycling .
the recycling bin is for aerosols, paper and plastic bottles
i was buying food containers that had the recycling logo on it so throwing it in the recycling bin after a few months all households where sent letters saying what not to put in and what to put in and the plastic container even though they have the symbol on them are not to be put in so its very stupid and confusing.
for you it would be contact your local council to ask about the facilities and if unresolved a local mp or paper

Re re-cycling of plastic - contact your local council as they are immediately responsible for this.

Re going back to the use of paper - recent studies have shown that more energy is used to re-cycle these, than to produce plastic !!

I know, it sounds weird.

Try complaining to your local council.

It would be difficult to answer that without knowing more. When you say "we" does that mean your city, state or apartment community?
