Yes it is, and often starts as this. Unfortunatly is does usually escalate as time goes on aswell so I would advise that you speak to someone now - before you end up seriously injuring yourself. I took over 6 years for me to admit I was doing it and I have had several corrective surgeries and part of my calf removed since due to the level of damage I've caused. I know it's very difficult (I was terrified to admit it at first) but you should know that 1 in 10 people admit to self harm of some type in their life. It's more common than you think. Your GP will be able to give you advice. The National self harm network is superb and can give you general advice, but also help in times of crisis.:

Yes it is. In a nut shell, self-harm is if you do something to yourself which causes pain, demonstrates a disliking/hatred of yourself or lack of care etc.

Also, things like biting nails or putting yourself in risky situations can been seen as self-harm. I'm not saying though that everyone who bites there nails self-harms. But in the context of someone who already SHs, then it can get included as one of their self-harm behaviours.

My opinion is that it may be best to talk to someone outside the family who you trust and feel comfortable with, and when you've got a better idea on things, talk it through with your family. The reason for this is that there may be a lot of strong emotions involved with family members which can make feeling able to talk harder. But whatever you do, DO talk to someone.
