Yes, the last thing we need in this country is more stupid athletes making millions of dollars. Education should always come first. Sports are meant for entertainment, and exercise in schools, and for some reason Americans value entertainment more than knowledge and I think that is wrong. I love sports, I just think education should come first.

I think that first and foremost education is the most important aspect of school. In many colleges you need to maintain a particular GPA in order to stay in good standing for sports teams. Granted you learn a lot about self discipline and teamwork in sports. It makes no sense that someone with bad grades should do a sport considered all the time and effort it requires after school. Since school sports detract from time a student has to do these things, only those who show they can and do put in the extra effort to succeed in both should qualify to play sports.

Yes. You shouldn't take time away from studies to play sports if you aren't doing well in school.

On the other hand....playing sports helps build discipline, which could help you with your grades.

As a parent, I would say Absolutly, without a doubt, YES! Children need to learn from an early age that education is their priority in life. Sports, music, drama and such are "Extra curricular" activites. My children are 9 and 10 years old and they know if they don't make the grade so to speak, they dont play. Period, end of discusssion.

You should have good enough grades that the time spent in sports (and lost studying) will not cause you to flunk out. You are in school to learn something--sports are extra.

I do believe that having good grades is very important and shows commitment which is essential for every sport if you are a competitive person; however, for some people if a particular sport is your passion i do not agree that you should be banned from it because of grades, that is absurd..and lets no kid ourselves anybody can get good grades by cheating or coping someone Else's work so what does that prove...i rest my case

No, not really. I find in practice, either you play alot of sport or you have really good grades. Then it falls in the middle with either one.
