it depends where you bought your PC and if it has a rescue partition available on your hard drive, if it does then pressing f10 or f12 may restore your system back to factory settings, without the need for any disks. You may have the option for creating recovery disks in your start menu programs somewhere. These disks will not usually enable you to reinstall windows on a different machine. hope this helps

Yes,,,,All you have to do is perform a system recovery so that the computer can reinstall windows on to your computer,
no disc required as there is a copy of windows on your computer hidden in a partition on the hard drive this is different to the program system restore which only restores your computer to a date when your computer was working well.
If you do choose to use the system recovery then make sure you back up any data that you want to keep for this will delete any software that you might have installed since you brought the PC and you wont have to activate the software for it is already activated.
make sure you un-plug the printer, scanner, web-cam, before you do this but leave connected the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. good luck with this

what you can do toby is try and get hold of any xp recovery disk or genuine xp disk andinstall this as if it was yours
then after you have installed windows,go to programs>activate windows, and the product key there will be a unauthorised key, simply delete this key by backspcing and then enter your product key in place
as long as your product key(activation code) is genuine then your windows xp will activate
your activation code is limited to three activations before you need to ring up microsoft u.k and re-enable the product key,i think this is a bit pathetic as once you buy a microsoft product it should be yours for life, and with regard to microsoft saying that you would pass it around for others to use, well i am sure microsoft could invent a process were if anyone tries to use a xp with your activation code then it should be denied
i dont like having to ring up microsft and being asked 20 questions so i can activate my own genuine copy of windows
good luck

the activation code applies to the disk that you are not in receipt of, if you use another copy of xp and apply the activation code to it you will find that it wont work,i think microsoft would like some proof that you are the owner before possibly replacing the disk.if your copy of xp was originally installed using ie missing disk this would be proof enough.
