Ok, so today I was leaving school and while backing up i got bumped. the other kid was chosen to call the police. I did not have my license but my friend went to my house to get it. While my friend was coming back the cops came and the cop took my registr. and insur. and told me he was going to cite me for not having a license. When my friend came back I gave him my license (he was calling in people and writing the paperwork) After he was done he told me he wasnt going to cite me anymore. I got the paperwork and it was a paper with the name of the driver, owner, and all this other info and on the back was information about getting money from insurance.

My car has NO damage.. its in the exact same condition as before the accident. The other guys bumper was broken. My estimate: $50 (the bumper dislocated but i snapped it back in), his: $500.
Im keeping the paper but wont make a claim. Will my insurance go up? Will my insur. company know? What did the cop probably report?

This happened in a school parking lot. You are not liable for damages to his vehicle. I a sitauation like this, each erson takes care of their own vehicle, which means if he wants his fixed, he can turn it in on his own insurance. If by chance you do get a call from his insurance company, DON'T ADMIT FAULT. From the sound of it, you were both backing up at the same time. You do not have to pay for damages to his vehicle.

Your insurance will not go up from the accident, unless it was determined to be "your fault".

You should find out what the police reported. It's available to you, on a document called a ... anyone... Bueller... "police report". You are entitled to a copy, get it from the police station.

You should be keenly interested in what it says, because it's the first place people will look to see "who's at fault". If the police report is wrong, there are ways to argue that, but one thing at a time.

Not having your license has absolutely nothing to do with who's legally at fault in the accident. If the cop didn't write you a ticket for it, then you're in the clear on that part.

"Not having your license on you" is a much less serious offense than "Not being licensed to drive by the state". If you don't have your card you might get treated temporarily like you aren't licensed to drive, but they won't press charges once they establish your identity and that you are, in fact, licensed to drive.

If this accident is "not your fault", I suggest taking it to a garage and making SURE the bumper is not damaged. It may have just "snapped back" but that doesn't mean it's right... and it could break worse later, when it's too late to stick the other driver for the cost of repair. Besides it was their lame brained idea to call the cops... they wanted to hold you responsible, so hold them responsible back.

all depends on if the police gave him your insurance information or not, also unless you are going to pay him, then his insurance company can and will go after you if he turns it in to his company.if you pay for it out of pocket make sure you get pictures and a reciept so that he can't come back and say there is more damage than what there is you got a paper with his insurance info which means he got 1 with yours so call him and see if he will settle out of pocket that is the only way to keep your insurance out of it now

If this is the first accident you've ever been in, definitely not because it wasn't your fault. The police have to report all accidents they are called to, but not to your insurance. Don't worry about it.

no, your ins. will not go up unless theres a claim.they will know about it only if the other guy puts in a claim because his company will contact yours.the cop reported who and what vehicles were involved just in case there was a problem later.
