my name. The previous service was under another person, but I purchased the phone. Am I able try and get an account opened, on line to do this? What do I need to do ?

Call the carrier or go to their authorized service center for whom you want to get service from. They'll tell you if they can activate it and, if so, what services and packages you want on your account.
