I always have thought that Christians ought to be glad there are "sinners" in the world. Without us, they'd be awfully bored!

Wrong. Good is limited, evil is limitless,
good is finite, evil is infinite.
There can absolutely exist a good without evil.
You don't need to see the depths of depravity in order to know what kindness and generosity are.
When it comes to being a "little" evil, who knows, there are so many opinions on it, to whether that thing is even "bad",
it's near impossible to get it just right, be "good" all the time,
so we try and try and try to get it right and never let ourselves slip too far into evil, because it can go very far.

Romans 3:8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
Romans 3:13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

I believe that what we consider to be "Good" is synonymous with what we consider "Love" to be. And, for that matter, what we consider to be "Evil" is nothing more than the Lack of that Love.
I also believe that we need to have an understadning of both in order to be able to choose one over the other.
However, what you will find is that no one EVER chooses 'Lack of Love.' But rather, it is our perception of others, based on our own standards, that create what we see in others as "Evil."
In other words, Those in this life that might be deemed by society as "Evil," have still, in THEIR life, chosen "Love."
The difference is what THEY see, in their perspective, as bringing themselves that Love.
So in laymens terms... Good and Evil are in the eye of the Beholder.

False premise. Evil just makes the good look even better, it doesn't make it not good.

Think of it this way. There is no cold. Cold is only themeasuring the absence of heat. There is no darkness. Darkness is only measuring the absence of heat. So sin or acts of evil is only the absence of God. Without sin, there would be no evil. God is good, God has always been. We created sin by disobeying God. So your statement is false.

of course there can be good without evil - God exists and He is not evil; He is perfect, being holy and pure
- and if we are to be like Christ, then it is possible for us to live a good life as well without evil.

God seperated good from evil. Purity of evil is satan. Purity of good is Jesus.
