Moving & need to quickly find new home for 1.5 yr. old cat as we are unable to take him to new apartment. Does anyone know of a shelter nearby?

Try http://www.pets911.com , they have links to shelters - click the 'find a local shelter' link on the left of the page.

But is there ANY way you can take your cat along with you? It's very hard to find good homes for an adult cat since there are a lot more unwanted cats than there are good homes for them. The vast majority of cats that are surrendered to shelters end up being euthanized (killed) because the shelters don't have enough room for all the unwanted cats.

Try talking with your landlord - make a resume for your cat explaining how great & well-behaved he is. Responsible pet owners tend to make better tenants because they understand commitment and responsibility - mention that fact to him or her!

Look around for pet-friendly apartments - http://www.rentwithpets.org is a good resource for ideas. Please try every other possible option before surrendering your cat to a shelter. He's been a good loving pet to you, and deserves for you to do everything you can to keep him.

Good luck!
