I've bought a pda (handheld pc) from the USA. When it arrived in UK and was delivered by ParcelForce they also gave me a customs slip with a £40 charge. I gave them cash there and then and got a receipt.
A friend just bought an expensive cable for motor diagnostics (just a cable) from the USA... Federal Express delivered it. He thought he was in the clear. A week or so later he gets a letter from Customs with a £40 charge/invoice.
Sometimes you can receive items which slip through the Customs net... and if its a gift from a friend I think its not eligible for tax anyway.. but some foreign purchases are eligble for customs import duty.

I've done international online ordering before, and I didn't have to pay extra for shipping, I just entered it into the site and that shipping cost covered it, so no, you shouldn't unless Britain has some special rules for its own country.

Yeah duty price (3.25%) then after that is added you then have to pay 17.5% for tax, but only if the item is a gift and a value of less than £37

No you don't. I admit to not really understanding import tax but I regularly buy mohair fabrics from the USA/Australia and I pay their shipping costs but never pay import tax.

conserving fee lists have become a ingredient of the previous, by way of actuality they violate multi-national GATT agreements. many worldwide places, and the IMF could retaliate by ability of ability of taxing or perhaps banning all US imports. China grow to be mad adequate as straight away as we imposed a tire tariff on them very final year. in the event that they actually had to retaliate, that they had kick Apple, KFC and Walmart and each and each of distinctive US companies, and sell all their US bonds. almost as good putting the above companies out of employer, many US companies that keep in mind on chinese language intermediary products could bypass under. client products could grow to be scarce, and the expenses will upward push and as our bonds and then our remote places money will grow to be valueless, you would be paying US $one thousand for a pair of rubber turn flops. A criminal thank you to decrease imports and enhance exports is to devalue the remote places money. we are on the instant pressuring China to enable the Yuan to have a very good time with. i do now no longer think of you will take a earnings decrease back to help us out, will you?
