What will they do?
i had surgery on my wrist feb 9th and had a metal plate put in. after 10 days in a splint, they put me in a cast. i have an appointment march 21st for more x rays. do you think it is possible that i could get the cast off that day? or do you think they will tell me to come back in two weeks or something?
oh just a side note, in case this changes anything, my wrist felt pretty good this week. (felt like nothing was wrong) 1st time since i broke it

Did they not tell you how long you would wear a cast? They'll probably take it off for the xray and put you into a splint or maybe even another cast for a few more weeks depending on the severity of the break and how it's healing.

I broke my ankle and had a plate put in and I wore a cast that could bear no weight for 6 weeks and then a cast I could walk in for 6 more. Being it's your wrist and doesn't bear weight like your ankle, you may just get a splint or brace this time.

Your question does not have enough detail for someone to give a good answer. Let me explain.

There are many different injuries literally thousands that require the aide of a cast for a period of time. Now this duration of time to be determined is based on the injury, its severity, your age and your own doctors opinion based on your medical history.

Now I'm guessing you are fairly young, at least not elderly or that old, this will be to your advantage. Young people such as children, teens and young adults generally have much higher and faster recovery rates from almost any injury. So they will examine/x-ray and perhaps perform a few movement tests on your wrist. Chances are if you pass the tests and the examination/x-rays go well you will have the cast removed.

Still there are parts of your question left unanswered. Really the main thing would be, is the metal plate permanent or simply being used to stabilize the injury? If it is not permanent it will have to be removed and you will probably have to continue to wear splint for at least 2 weeks.

Now I could be wrong about all of this because I do not know what bones you broke in your wrist, the type of fractures that incurred, the method of metal plating used or your age & med. history. But I hope you get it off because they are uncomfortable and not very convinient, so good luck.
