Sorry, but this is my first time cook.
My bf is not a good cooker, but he cooked for me many times.
And I also want to do something for him. esp. some weekends when we are together and do nothing special, I guess cooking could be a good one:)
Any advice for my first cooking? thanks a lot.

TORTELLINI WITH PESTO CREAM SAUCE

heres a fast easy one that will truly blow his socks off. the ingredients are mostly pre-made but theyre all fresh, available at any decent supermarket, and you just need to cook them. takes 15 minutes from start to finish and makes 2 big servings...

ingredients:
one 9 oz pkg fresh buitoni brand 3-cheese tortellini
one 7 oz pkg buitoni pesto sauce
one tomato
two cloves fresh garlic
1/2 pint heavy cream

preperation:
-put a pot of water with salt added on stove and while its heating up make the pesto cream sauce as follows
-break off the cloves of garlic from a head, peel, mince and toss it into a hot saucepan with a few dashes of oil (preferably olive oil)
-fry it half a minute or so, and as the garlic just starts to change color, cool it all down by adding the cream, and the tomato diced into small pieces with a dash of salt. keep it hot, below boiling
-when the water is boiling start cooking the tortellini, about 8 min
-drain tortellini and serve into bowls, take cream mixture off heat and mix pesto into it (pesto doesnt need to cook). check sauce for adequate saltyness and pour generous amounts onto each portion of pasta

goes well with cabernet sauvignon red wine

Alright, here's is a "guy" meal, he'll love and anyone, with any experiance, can make. My hubby loves it:

New England Pot Roast:

In a large pot, or crock pot if you have one, brown a 3-4pound chuck roast in 1-2TB of cooking oil over medium-high heat. You don't want to cook the meat, but just brown the outside of it. Make sure you turn it to get every side. When it's nice and brown on the outside completely cover the roast with water, and add a packet of "Pot Roast Seasoning", or "Onion Soup Mix" either will turn out delicious. Reduce the heat to simmer, and leave alone ALL DAY. Add more water if you need to in order to keep the meat coated. If you do this in a crock pot you can leave the house, if you do it in a pan on the stove you should stay home just to be on the safe side.
About a half hour before you'd like to serve dinner open up one of those packages of Jiffy Biscuit Mix, and follow the directions, adding a handful or two of shredded cheddar cheese and a shake of two of garlic powder. Otherwise bake these off just as the box says.
Open up a bag or two of your favorite frozen veggies, and pour the desired amount into microwavable dishes with a little water and zap until hot.
Remove the roast from the water and place on a serving dish, it's delicious with or without gravy. If you're feeling very adventurous, about an hour or two before dinner time reduce the amount of water in the pot by half and add a can of whole cranberry cranberry sauce to let simmer. It makes the most delicious Cranberry Pot Roast ever!

Try Italian. It's fairly easy and delicious.

You'll need:
1 large pot (3 quart or larger)
1 Skillet, 12"
1 lasagna pan (If you don't have one you can buy
a disposable one at the grocery store)
1 Colander (a strainer)

1 lb. ground beef
1 Small sweet onion, cut in small dices
1 lb. ziti pasta
1 Jar (28 oz.) of your favorite spaghetti sauce
3 Cloves of garlic, crushed and diced(You break
off the cloves from a head of garlic.
2 Tablespoons dried basil (grind it in your hand a
little before using)
4 teaspoons dried oregano
salt & pepper
1 lb. grated mozzarella cheese

Brown ground meat in skillet over medium heat. When meat starts to brown, add diced onion, then garlic. Stir and continue browning.

Add jar of spaghetti sauce, and the basil and oregano. Reduce heat to low and simmer.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Boil three quarts of water (or more) in a large pan. When the water comes to a boil add 3 tablespoons (approximately) salt. Put in the ziti, stir once, and boil. Watch to be sure water does not boil over. Reduce the heat if necessary while keeping the pasta at a slow boil. Boil for 8-9 minutes. Pour in colander to drain water off.

Put two large spoons of the meat sauce in the lasagna pan, just to cover the bottom. Pour in pasta and then the rest of the sauce. Stir slightly to coat all the pasta. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese on top of the pasta. Place pasta on the middle rack in the 375 degree oven for 20 - 25 minutes or until the cheese is light brown and bubbly. (Like pizza cheese)

Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

Serve with a simple salad and a loaf of Italian bread.

might i suggest macoroni? i know it's not very romantic and it's kind of lame and maybe not what you're looking for, but it's definitely easy to make. lasana isn't too hard to make either, especially if you have a recipe.

Ok I know it looks daunting with all these ingredients but it is easy trust me.

Thai green chicken curry

225g new potatoes, cut into chunks
100g green beans, trimmed and halved
1 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 rounded tbsp or 4 tsp Thai green curry paste (you can't fit the tablespoon into some of the jars)
400ml can coconut milk
2 tsp Thai fish sauce
1 tsp caster sugar
450g boneless skinless chicken (breasts or thighs), cut into bite-size pieces
2 fresh kaffir lime leaves finely shredded, or 3 wide strips(if you can find)
lime zest, ( outer skin not the white stuff) plus extra to garnish
good handful of basil leaves
boiled rice, to serve

Put the potatoes in a pan of boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Throw in the beans and cook for a further 3 minutes, by which time both should be just tender but not too soft. Drain and put to one side.
In a wok or large frying pan, heat the oil until very hot, then drop in the garlic and cook until golden, this should take only a few seconds. Don't let it go very dark or it will spoil the taste. Spoon in the curry paste and stir it around for a few seconds to begin to cook the spices and release all the flavours. Next, pour in the coconut milk and let it come to a bubble.
Stir in the fish sauce and sugar, then the pieces of chicken. Turn the heat down to a simmer and cook, covered, for about 8 minutes until the chicken is cooked.
Tip in the potatoes and beans and let them warm through in the hot coconut milk, then add a lovely citrussy flavour by stirring in the shredded lime leaves (or lime zest). The basil leaves go in next, but only leave them briefly on the heat or they will quickly lose their brightness. Scatter with the lime garnish and serve immediately with boiled rice.

Pasta shells with broccoli & anchovies

1 large head broccoli, cut into small florets
400g orecchiette pasta
1 tbsp olive oil
3 garlic cloves, sliced
50g can anchovies in oil, drained and roughly chopped
1 large red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped or 1 tsp chilli flakes
half a lemon
parmesan shavings, to serve

Cook the broccoli in a pan of boiling water for 3 mins, then drain, reserving the cooking water. Cook the pasta in the same water as the broccoli according to pack instructions.
Heat the oil in a pan, then fry garlic until lightly golden. Remove garlic, then set aside. Add anchovies, chilli and half a cup of pasta cooking water to the pan. Cook for 2 mins, until the liquid has reduced by half and the anchovies have broken down. Stir in the broccoli and a squeeze of lemon juice, then cook for 1 min, until the broccoli has warmed through. Drain the pasta then toss everything together. Serve scattered with parmesan.

Honey nut crunch pears

4 ripe pears
knob of butter
½tsp mixed spice
2 tbsp clear honey
50g cornflakes
25g toasted flaked almonds

Heat oven to 375 - 400 F. Cut the pears in half lengthways, take out the core (see tip, left), then top with a small knob of butter and a sprinkling of the mixed spice. Sit the pears in a shallow baking dish, then roast for 5 mins until starting to soften. Meanwhile, heat the honey and another knob of butter in a large bowl in the microwave for 30 secs. Toss with the cornflakes and nuts.
Take the pears out of the oven, then top with the cornflake mix. Cook for another 5 mins or until the cornflakes take on a rich golden colour. Allow to cool for a few mins (the cornflakes crisp up again as they cool), then serve warm with ice cream.

OR

MAPLE & PECAN PEARS Heat 2 tbsp maple syrup with butter instead of the honey, then toss with the cornflakes and a handful chopped pecan nuts. Top the pears with the cornflake mix, then bake as before. Drizzle with some more maple syrup to serve.
