If your friend really likes this person then why does she care what others may think? If she's so concerned that he may say or do the wrong thing then she needs to ask herself why she bothered asking him to the dance. Let him go and be himself, she may find that he's not such a "total nerd" as you and everyone else thinks he is. Just because a person is intelligent and/or smart doesn't make them a nerd. However I guess it doesn't help you being her so-called friend you've joined the group that seems to think he's a nerd. You need to cut your friend and her crush some slack. Get to know him, you might just learn something.
