A friend of mine had a catered pig roast two years in a row. The caterers roasted a whole pig there but all we got were some huge trays of pork. No hams or bacon in sight. Do caterers keep those parts for themselves without mentioning it to anyone?

Pork means pig meat. ANY meat that comes from the pig is pork. Ham is pork, bacon is pork, pork chops are pork....etc.

Caterers serve EXACTLY what the host who pays them asks them to serve. Since it was your friend who hired the caterer, they chose what was served. No bacon was served because when you roast a pig, you don't get bacon from it. Bacon is sliced and cured pork.....which you can't do in one evening roasting a pig.

Ham was most likely served at the event, you just didn't realize it was ham, because when roasted and served immediately, it looks and tastes a bit different than when you buy ham in the store. Ham is most often cured before serving. Either wet-cured or dry-cured. Ham is only from the back legs of the pig. If they roasted the pig and served it, then technically they served ham.....you just didn't recognize it as such.

No, the ham and bacon are included in the package. I think you are confused as to how the meat is prepared it is either roasted in a pit underground or on a spit. Ham is the leg and sometimes the shoulder and the belly is where you find the bacon. The ham and bacon you buy at the store the legs are smoked, that is where they get that luscious smoky flavor. I hope that I have been some help to you.

Both ham and bacon are pork products, but they are cured. (Ham is from the legs, bacon from the belly) If your caterer was roasting a whole pig, it would be impossible for them to serve you bacon or ham. Those parts would have to be cut off and cured, not roasted.

Every cut of pig meat IS pork.

If the pig was roasted whole, then the whole of the animal was cut and served. A ham is simply a particular cut of pig meat, and bacon is a particular cut that has been cured or smoked and cured.

If they are cooking the pig at your place, and you can watch them, you will see that most time everything gets chopped up together.

When we cook ours, we chop, pull out bones, and other pieces that don't look good. Keep chopping until its all ready to serve. Serve it up in big trays, covered with Eastern Carolina sauce...best in the world

specific. i admire a pulled pork sammich. i admire baked ham, interior the morning, for breakfast you may decrease products of it up and fry it. Beaverbrook is purely amazing, is going properly with eggs, grits, burgers, and a lot of alternative stuff.

No competent caterer who wishes to have return customers serve anything other than what he or she specified to serve. If you have one that does, call his or her hand on it.
