$13.95, if you want to split hairs, but read on for some alternate views.

Hairstylists at beauty salons and barbershops should be tipped 15% of the bill; those who shampoo your hair get $1.00 to $2.00.
If more than one person provides services, for example one doing color and another cutting your hair, tip each person 10%-15% of their portion of the bill.

Here is another viewpoint:
I CUT HAIR .. says:
This advice is coming from a stylist herself. We all work for tips regardless of whether the cost of a haircut is $35 or $65. I worked for tips when my cost was at $35 and still work for tips when my cost is $65.

... my salon is commission meaning I get a percentage of what I make. Doesn't mean that I take home the entire $165 cost of a highlight, but it means I get 45% of it, then that is still taxed out.

All salons are run differently. Some salons are rental, meaning that stylists pay a certain amount of rent and they are able to take their entire amount home, but they also have to provide their own color, pay for their chair, etc. When working in a commission environment such as mine, everything is covered by the salon, color, station, overhead, receptionist, etc. Most rental situations, you are you're own owner, therefore must provide everything except for towels, and the water, and sometimes the shampoo.

So it all depends. I personally don't get bent over backwards when someone doesn't tip unless I've spent hours and hours on their cut and color and they leave satisfied and I don't get a dime. It's understandable from other people's perspectives as to why, after spending nearly $200, you don't want to leave a $10 tip or whatever, but it also makes us know we're doing a good job.

In this industry, high end salons are usually filled with really good stylists, they do it not only because its an art, but they are passionate for it. When people are out there using the "hair industry" as a stepping stone or as a secondary job it makes those people who are out there putting their all and love into it feel unappreciated.
