What happens to anyone who dies is what they believe will happen to them. There is no conclusive proof.
I'm an Atheist, but I believe in reincarnation. I believe that my body is just the vessel that carries my soul. When this body is dead, my soul will be reborn into another living creature, not necessarily human.

None of your answers satisfy me so I will offer my opinion.
First, if you are an atheist, then it doesn't matter because mortality is all there is and now it is over. The body decomposes and life goes on without you.
If, however, you believe in life after death, then the spirit leaves the body the same as everybody else. That spirit is conducted back to the presence of God for a preliminary ruling of good or bad.
The good go to Paradise to rest, learn and await the resurrection. The bad go to Prison where they can learn of their mistakes, go through the repentance process and await their resurrection.
At the resurrection, they go for final judging to determine what kingdom they will inhabit. The Celestial Kingdom is reserved for those that have been faithful to God and Christ throughout their lives and spent their time in service to others as Jesus did and taught us all to do.
The Terrestrial Kingdom is reserved for those that were basically good but were not valiant in following Christ. They didn't serve faithfully to the end or followed the ways of the world more than the ways of God. They didn't do anything truly evil but didn't spend much time doing anything really good either.
The Telestial Kingdom is reserved for the rest of God's children. These are the ones that rejected Christ, that were basically bad and looked out for number one most of the time. They did not manifest love for others nor accept the teachings of Christ and generally caused more grief than good.
There is one other category that is without glory reserved for the truly evil ones that knew God and Christ and then turned away from what they knew. These are called Sons of Perdition, or followers of Satan.
Now, as for the lonely atheist at the beginning of this story. If they did not know any better and genuinely followed an atheistic philosophy because that was the only thing that made sense to them, then they will have the opportunity to learn the truth in the spirit world as mentioned above. They died without the law and will go to Paradise because they did the best they could with what they had.
On the other hand, if they did know the teachings of Christ and openly chose to live contrary to those teachings, then they will probably find themselves in prison where they can then learn the error of their ways and wait for a lesser resurrection than they could have otherwise enjoyed.

Atheist we don't believe in anything but one thing is sure, we are alive and we feel so probably when you die you go to a better place because in that place you don't feel anything, love, pain, hot ,cold ,nothing because you are dead so is total peace.
Of course nobody knows, but something is very interesting, now at this moment must be one baby that born somewhere and who choose the soul for that boy?this baby is going to be unique, no one same like him or her.
On the other hand I am not scare of where I am going once I die, I am scare of where I am going to born next time, I am in this body and I can not get out of it, but the world is becoming more unstable , the pour population is increasing so the chances to born in a better place are becoming more and more difficult if it is that we born again in the same planet.
Of course nobody can answer your question , only you the day you die.
I hope you born next time in a very nice planet.
cheers

It deppends on your religious beliefs.
Jewish people would say they might be accepted to heaven (shamayim) if they can pass the gates (by doing good deeds (mitzvot).
Christans would agree that they would go to hell, and that they themselves would go to heaven.
I do not know about muslims.
There is not a single person in the world who actually know if heaven is real or not. Since nobody can come back from the dead, nobody can 100% trust a bible or source on telling us about afterlifes.
Of course, for now some people will have to take it that we will be dead, whether this is right or wrong.

They die, get put in the ground, go to hell and rot there for eternity. They miss out on Heaven and all its glory. Very sad when you think they could have had Heaven with one little sentence. You can say it if u like. "Father God, I know I am a sinner but I ask your forgiveness and beg you to accept me into your kingdom of Heaven". A Pastor will help you exact wording if you like.
It's a simple as that. Try it you'll notice a world of difference in your life. Do it before it is too late. You will love Heaven but you will hate Hell. Do it please, I'd can't wait to see you there.

I know.
I am sorry to say this but they go to Hell.
They have denied the existence of God after I am sure having plenty of chances to accept him.
I know for sure what happens to me,
but for the atheists:
Where is the hope in life then? Don't you think there is something more to living and dying? Aren't you scared that you don't really know what's going to happen and what if you're wrong?
All i am saying is, I know and believe there is a God and a heaven and hell. I am positive. But if you're saying i am wrong, then what can the harm be in being a Christian? Please don't take this offensively.

Reading the answers to this reminds me why I'm so happy that I left the church.
If there is a God and he is petty enough that only the Lord and Saviour thing keeps me from hell, then I really don't think he's someone I want to spend eternity worshiping.

Same thing that happens to believers of every religion, same thing that has happened to Catholics, Muslims, people who believed in Roman myth or anything else over thousands of years, nothing.
lights out for everyone just as it always was.
life after death is strange and hilarious wishful thinking.

it doesnt matter as everyone elese said the same thing happens to all of us do you think that when death comes for us he cares about our age race or leat of all religon...deaths all like naw i wont take him he's christan yea right we all die we all go to the same place do you really think that if your christan your better than the rest of us? and that your a better person and some how more deserving of going to heaven than the next guy there's no differance between a good person and a good person who believes in christ, you silly little book was written to keep people in line and set some ground rules for people to follow kinda like santa cluas for adults if you naughty you go to hell if you good and believe in santa then you get the gift of heaven , do you think god would really throw all of those good souls away just for a lack of faith? when those people did a lot of good for christans and the world in whole
