I disagree with the sentiment expressed here, but I agree with the conclusion: never. We are after all, the most consumer based society in the world, our entire culture is based on consumption, it's kind of written into the "American Dream"

The US never will. The Senate voted unanimously against the Kyoto Protocol, as it is economic suicide. The sole purpose of the Kyoto Protocol is to punish the US for all world pollution, while giving big polluters like China and India the proverbial green light to pollute at will.
Furthermore, the Kyoto Protocol has accomplished nothing in Europe. The self-imposed environmental regulations in the US have done more to protect the environment, yet keep our economy strong. Which is exactly why the jealous and greedy world wants us to sign Kyoto so badly.

The Kyoto Protocol ordinary the "carbon credit" scheme. human beings pay money to those who prepared the Kyoto Protocol so they are able to pollute as much as they prefer. As one scholar reported, "isn't that like paying air?" So the Kyoto Protocol will do not something yet make money for it somewhat is creators and do harm to any u . s . that concurs to it. it could do no good and a lot of harm. Please, don't be somebody who hurts persons purely to make themselves sense greater effective.

Never, but read on.
The Kyoto treaty didn't work. Some people didn't sign on, others got ridiculous breaks, others signed but aren't living up to their obligations.
The scientific case that global warming is real and caused by us is much stronger now, and getting stronger every day.
There will be a new treaty that is better. And the US and Australia will sign it, because of simple self preservation. They both have a lot of modern agriculture and coastal development that is gravely threatened.

I could see why someone from India or China might like it but anyone from US or Australia trying to ratify it would have to be a fool.
