I currently live in Oklahoma and I pay $34.99 a month for 3.8 megebits down and 780 up with cox. I don't have (or want) land line phone or cable TV. I was looking for something like this for LA, Glendale, or Burbank after I move?

I live about 30 miles north of downtown and I have RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable). I've never had any real problems with it in 2 years. I pay about $40 a month for it.

The best site to figure out who the providers are is http://www.dslreports.com

They just ISPs geographically and can tell you who the local providers will be based on ZIP code.

When you do move, you will be subject to the powers that own the cable and or DSL franchise in your area. That means you can get DSL from PacBell, er, SBC, er, the NEW AT&T. OR, you can get internet connection from the cable company (either Cox or Time Warner, since Comcast and Adelphia were bought out). DSL is about the same price here, Broadband cable is a few bucks more. It's obviously cheaper if bundled together with other services, but it is avalable on its own. I've had both, and found the cable company to be considerably faster and more reliable

Your choices are (in most areas) cable, DLS or WiFi or dial up.

I can't recommend cable because if their internet service is as bad as their tv service, you're screwed.

The phone companies are having a DSL war, you should be able to get something on the cheap.

We also have Vonage and related here. Might be an economical way to go.

Don't know enough about WiFi to offer you much advise. We have a lot of hot spots, though. Maybe you will get lucky and be able to piggyback on to someone else's.
