Chances are that you've definitely been doed, and been done. You've been had real bad.
I know it's too late now, but you should never, ever, EVER send someone you don't know a payment over Western Union. Scammers have used that as a tool for years, cause once they get their money, there is nothing you or anyone else can do.
Also, never pay for a vehicle sight-unseen.and only agree to pay the balance of a downpayment in cash after viewing the vehicle with the option of declining and getting your money back depending on the condition of the vehicle.
I don't know what you can even hope to do. If you had made a payment through paypal you'd have an out, but you willingly send someone money through WU. If they aren't being honest, you are just pretty much hosed.

andrew p,
sorry, but your money is GONE!
you have now learned a very expensive lesson.
NEVER send money via WESTERN UNION!
EVERY auction on ebay tells you that!
there is little that you can do.
WESTERN UNION payments can be picked up anywhere in the world.
ALWAYS pay through PAYPAL with CREDIT CARD!
don't believe ANY email that tells you it is safe to buy AFTER the auction ends!

Unfortunately the answer is probably yes. To what branch of Western Union did you send the funds to, i.e., is it at least in the United States? Did you contact the person for details on picking the car up or having it shipped? Area code?
I will cross my fingers for you my friend...

Yes, you probably have been.
Report it to eBay, and your local police, but there isn't much they can do for you.
I get them constantly, those, and ones that ask me to sign in and update my information so they can send me a check for something I sold. The only problem is, I don't have an account with eBay.

Yup, get some Vasoline... No, seriously, contact Ebay, your local police dept. and possibly the FBI website for e-commerce. This would fall under the category of mail fraud. Good luck!

Call Western Union and make a report, report this to ebay spam/fraud so they can look into it.

doesn't sound good - hope it was cheap! i've been involved with sales/purchase of autos on ebay and there are very different rules that you should adhere too when talking large sums of money/collateral.
