I'd actually be looking into the L24 or L28 from a Z-car... if you want something boosted, look at a SR20DET or CA18DET. Both will double (or more) your current HP and be a relatively easy swap.

Check the Datsuns forum at www.NICOclub.com, there are several Datto owners with engine swaps there...

Skip the VG30 from the 300ZX and the RB-series engines.

As with most engine swaps, you have to take into consideration that you will undoubtedly have to do some fabricating in order to make the new engine fit. Then you will have to totally rewire the car with the new engine's computer, and harness. You will have to reroute fuel, water, trans, and other lines that may not go back to their original places once the new engine is installed. You may have to beef up the rear differential to be able to put up with the extra horsepower you are demanding that it accept. You will have to install stiffer springs to compensate for the weight difference of the new engine. You may have to relocate the steering rack...

I could go on for a while about the possibles, but I think you have the jist of it from there. Whatever you decide, have fun with it, and keep the rubber side down!
