I was sitting on the bus the other day and listening to a conversation, a man asked a woman if she had any lotion because he was ashy. All she had was a small tub of petroleum jelly so he took some and rubbed it all over his face. I couldn't stop laughing, it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen, I had to turn around so they couldn't see me.

One of the definations for ashy is scorched, blistered, parched, singed, seared, charred, sunburned: burnt up incinerated, cremated, consumed, consumed by fire, ashen, ashy, carobonized etc
Perhaps he was either sunburned or just complaining of very dry skin.

when your skin dires out it takes on a lighter tone that looks kinda like powder. ashes and poweder are similar so i guess the term ashy just stuck for when you have dry skin.

"ashy" means quite literally that you look... ashy! hahaha. i don't know how else to describe it. it refers to dry skin.. dull, greyish looking, without any shine to it.
did the people know each other? that's bizarre!! i would have laughed too.
