Anyone that charges you an initial fee for a loan is probably a scam artist. It's the new thing on the web. Personal Lenders. Problem is, they charge you the up front fee and you never see your money again, nor do you get the loan.
Find a legitimate lending institution. Stay away from personal lenders unless you actually know who that person is. Unfortunately, a lot of the ones you see on here are from other countries so there is no way of tracking them down or getting your money back once you're scammed.
I don't know who to refer you to as I don't know who offers that type of loan. Just be careful and make sure you check them out throughly before you sign and don't send any up front money. There are lenders that will loan you money after bankruptcy. However, the interest rate on it is likely to be very high.

For a very similar situation a found a great solution at: CREDITVAULT.NET-
RE Are there sources out there who provide personal loans if you've filed for bankruptcy?
If yes, could I get the name(s) of these companies.
Also:
1) Do they charge you an inital fee?
2) I'm not looking to get into major debt again. Just a smaller loan to clean up some debt not covered through the bankruptcy and that I will be able to afford to pay back monthly without digging a hole for myself.

Rather than list 10 items here, go to google and search " bankruptcy loans ", there are responses for house loans, car loans, money loans. Your bankruptcy has to have been discharged ( over ) I believe. I went bankrupt due to a bunch of medical bills about 10 years back. I had a credit card soon after, purchased a car, even a small house after a couple years. Just don't get into any bad credit card habits ( I pay mine in full every month, just don't carry cash ) and keep working as much as possible and you can build your credit back up. Good Luck in your future. Oh, don't borrow from anybody who charges you a fee to apply - that is a sure sign of a ripoff.

Taxmaven is correct, Check out Dave Ramsey. If you are really serious about going ahead with a loan to clean up some small bills you can check with Orchard Bank or Capitol One. A personal loan will be very hard to get, but after a bankruptcy is discharged you can probably qualify for a unsecured credit card. You will however pay a premium interest rate, because it will be setup from a subprime lender.

Capital One sent me an unsecured credit card with a $2000. credit line, 30 days after I filed bankruptcy. There is a small annual fee & the interest rate is about 20%. It has a ZERO balance, and I plan to keep it that way, but it serves as an emergency card until I can establish my emergency fund. Most of the other unsecured credit card offers I'v received want huge fees that are simply ridiculous.

If you have been bankrupt, then you should've figured out by now that BORROWING doesn't "clean up" debt, it just moves it around. If you are serious about not digging another hole for yourself, you should get a copy of Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" & follow his advice for paying OFF your debts & staying away from debt in the future. It has worked for us.
