The doctor has perscribed me xanax just to help with evening tension before going to bed. I'm afraid of becomming addicted and he has given me 1mg. Is that a lot? It's for 2 weeks worth. Is that enough to get someone hooked?

Listen, don't take too much of what people say to heart. EVERYBODY has different reactions to different meds.

My MD prescribed Wellbutrin for me and I FREAKED out, waited a year because I was so afraid of it. What a waste of time.

I totally advise, just take it, don't worry before taking it, and forget you took it after. And then go about your business and see what happens.

PLEASE don't read too many reviews about what ppl say about it. Just try it for yourself.

Doctors, God bless them, are notoriously poor at explaining what to expect from the meds they prescribe.
If you're prone to anxiety, call up the pharmacist who filled the prescription (or better yet, stop by and speak directly with her/him) and ask your questions there. You may also be given a written report on this particular drug that will tell you what the side effects and what the contra-indications are.
Thoughtfully, your physician has limited the number of pills to get you through a short time. Once you've satisfied your question, you'll feel more relaxed.
I've never taken this particular medication myself so I can't directly answer your question, but 1mg is probably the lowest dose you can get.
I suggest that you learn some deep breathing exercises to calm yourself whenever you feel tense, Maybe take up meditation or Yoga.

I have abused 5 mg Xanax daily for atleast 6 months . When I quitted Xanax I had slurred speech and vision problem (like I could see straight but not sideways) for one month after quitting it. But I had also quitted smoking, pot, speed and alcohol on the same day by going cold turkey. 1mg is a peanut dose so do not worry you wont suffer from any side effects. Moreover it has the least side effects as compared to other drugs because it is least toxic for liver in prescribed doses.

The fact that ur doc prescribed it, means u need it.
And ur need comes first. You have to weight the benefits against the loss that u might suffer(seems unlikely u will)
U cant get addicted to such a low dosage & for 2 weeks unless u want so.
Try other things first if u dont want to start using drugs, like yoga, meditation, exercise that makes u tired, read a book before going to bed , have a warm glass of milk and generally chill out!
If all else fails, start xanax!

You didn't say how much he prescribed, but if it's something like the 0.25 or even the 0.5 mg., Two weeks is not likely to get you hooked. Those that have taken it for extended periods of time have become addicted. For two weeks I wouldn't worry about it.

You really need to ask your Pharmacist. I could tell you an answer but it would not be valid without knowing your age and weight.

If you have not picked up the perscription yet, speak to the pharmacist when you do.

If you have picked it up, call the pharmacy and ask. Their is a number on your pill container.
