There's a saying in Spanish, "La chancla que yo tiro, no la vuelvo a levantar," which means "The sandal (more like a flipflop) I throw away, I'm not going to pick up again." It means, basically, that when you break up with someone, you don't take that person back. Obviously, your boyfriend doesn't have all of that written in his phone, but it leads me to believe that the term "la chancla" is just referring to you as his girlfriend. Assuming you guys aren't having any problems, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. You should just ask him about it, though!

P.S. -- I just noticed that your screen name is "Flip Flop", so now it all makes perfect sense...a "chancla" is a "flipflop"! Do you wear them all the time or something? If so, there's your answer...and it's just a sweet nickname! :)

La Chancla is actually a sandal.

My grandma says when they were young, they used to get swatted with "the chancla".

I've heard it used as like you're the law, or the authority.....usually in a joking way.

La is feminine standing for, her, it or the.
Chancla: means thong, slipper or old shoe.
It is considered an insult in some Latin countries.
other countries regard it as an term of affection.
