What you're having sounds like your mucous plug. It's called show when there is blood in the mucous plug. You don't neccesarily have to have show. I never did. Just be prepared for labor, since your mucous plug is coming out and you are close to your due date.

I can only tell you what happened in my experience.
When I was pregnant the night before I went into labor I started to have thick discharge (REALLY thick) and a large amount of it. I guess you could call it mucus (the mucus plug). *gag*
I didn't understand the discharge and just assumed it was something weird with the pregnancy, and I went to bed. All night I kept getting up with lower pain in my abdomen, then some pain kind of higher like I had to go to the bathroom. I kept getting up and going to the bathroom because I thought maybe I was having bathroom problems.
Finally I realized something was wrong because I was not going to the bathroom and these pains in my abdomen were getting worse. Then the last time I went I had started to bleed and knew right away I was in labor. If you have the pain with the bleeding then it is a good sign of labor. The pain always gets worse, and always gets more intense. It also comes in waves (like the whole timing thing).

"Bloody Show" is misleading. It does not mean that you will see a bunch of blood. Bloody show is usually a streak of pink or brown. If you are seeing a thick discharge, this could be your mucus plug. I know it's sort of disgusting but it resembles the gelatin substance you would find around a canned ham. When you lose your plug, it generally means that your pevic bone is opening (which also would account for the "cramps" you've been feeling). Losing your mucus plug usually indicates that you are only a few days away from the big day.

I don't know if it HAS to have blood in it but they do call it a "bloody show" often when referring to the mucous plug. I wouldn't worry, everyone is different of course but I would definitley rather not have the blood there, and I'm sure you agree. It sounds like you might be starting labor. But remember it could still be weeks or days yet. Good luck!

You are in the beginning stages of labor you need to call your doctor when the period like pains (contractions) you are feeling are 5 minutes apart.

It can and sometimes not. No need to worry at this stage of your pregnancy. This is normal. If pains continue for over 7 days see your doctor.
