My cat does this too. The shower water is because it has salty residue of you in it, and tap water doesn't. Any water on a window or toilet has this as well. As long as your windows are clean and not covered in chemicals, this is fine. Same with the toilet, if you have a in bowl flush cleaner, remove it and flush a couple of times, to remove chemical residue.
If you want them to drink from their bowl, get a water fountain, this keeps the water moving. Stagnate water may also be a problem, cats don't like it after a while. Either a fountain or a bowl that you can stick a coke bottle on so it fills as the cats drinks, this will also move the water.

My cat drinks water in the shower after we're done too. She will also lick the water in the bottom of the sinks. I worried about her getting sick but when I mentioned it to my vet she didn't seem overly concerned. Must be a cat thing. Try another type of water dish and put one in the bathroom by the shower. I previously had a cat that always wanted me to turn on the water in the sink. I put a bowl in the bathroom, the sink drinking ended.

My cats do the same thing, I think all cats love to drink from a dripping faucet or after a shower, lol.
I agree that it is because of them wanting fresh cold water. My cat T. likes to drink his water at changing times as soon as I put it down he's waiting.

Many times it depends on what the water dish is made of. Plastic is not good. It emits an unpleasant taste to cats. My suggestion is either stainless or preferably porcelin/ceramic bowl that can withstand extremely high temperatures... Buy a good porcelin/ceramic bowl, wash it thoroughly before you use it, fill it with plain old, cold tap water (with a single ice cube if you wish). GENTLY tip her head into the bowl so some gets on her nose and mouth. Keep it next to her food at all times and make sure you give her fresh, clean water every day.

Cats are weird. Some will only drink from a dripping faucet. I had to put a bowl of water in the living room to make my cat drink as she ignores the kitchen bowl. But everytime she walks by the dining room bowl, she samples the water. Try putting a bowl somewhere weird, for your own weird cat.

Cats are crazy when it comes to water. My kitty will only drink standing water from a clear glass on a table, if you put her water on the floor she just looks up at you as if she is offended by the very idea. She also likes running tap water. I think it is because cats prefer coldish water and the glass keeps it cooler. Also, if it is on the floor, more stuff probably falls into it like dust & debris.

wow i thought my cat was the only one that did this!! Get this, my cat drinks the toliet water!! And it's BLUE! You know from one of those 2000 flushes things that you drop in the tank. How safe is that?? I tend to keep the toliet seat down nowadays. I have no reason why, but Rocky loves to drink water from the sink, bathtub, toliet, my glass, etc.. anything but his OWN! I'm going to try changing it everyday now - instead of just adding to it. Or putting an ice cube in it like someone suggested.

They just like the freshness. If I had water sitting in a glass all day I probably wouldn't drink it either.
My cat figured out how to use his head to turn the bathroom sink faucet on and off. He helps himself to fresh water whenever he wants it and he even turns it off when he's finished! Sometimes he doesn't get the faucet handle all the way down, though, and it ends up dripping.
