The flowering plants of Nigeria include various species of families Asteraceae, Cucurbitaceae, Malvaceae, and Solanaceae. They are noted for their medicinal uses, but they do also produce flowers. The Asteraceae are better known as daisies or sunflowers. Cucurbitaceae are gourds, and they usually produce yellow to orange colored blossoms. Malvaceae are also called mallows, and the flowers normally have five petals. The Solanaceae are sometimes called the nightshades, but in addition to deadly nightshade the family includes eggplants, chile peppers, potatoes, tobacco, tomatoes, and petunias.
