2 things I can think of:

1. Use the practice green. Place 3 balls about 3' away from the cup, putt `til you make all 3 without missing. Then do the same from about 6', keep putting `til you make all 3 without missing. Then 9', then 12' then 18'.

2. Try this, instead of looked at the ball when you putt, look at the hole or the target (if the green is sloped). This is how I always putt. I think it's better to look at the goal than to look at the problem.

This is a great tip that I personally use all the time when I have a similar experience. Before every round hit the putting green. Practice long puts first and try to get the ball within a 3-foot radius of the hole. Then, right before the round pound in 10 3-footers IN A ROW. Hitting the 10 in a row will give you confidence in your stroke before the round that will carry through all 9 or 18.

Good luck and say goodbye to 3-putts.

You will think this is crazy, but I've tried it with people and it works. Find your nearest Putt-Putt miniature golf course (or equivalent) and play four or five rounds during the week. It works much better than practicing on the putting green to help you with those types of putts. It is best to do it during the day when the place is quite and not full of kids. Pick the layout that has the fewest clown mouths and such. Take a buddy and play loser buys lunch to keep it interesting.

you have to play putting games when practicing...we play a game called 21...one guy putts at a hole, then the next guy, closest to the hole wins one point, like real golf...the away guy putts next until youre in, whoever wins the hole gets two more points, if the guy makes the first putt he gets three, and if someone makes on top then he gets the three, if you push on number of putts to make then only the closest on the first putt gets a point, and always the last to make a putt will putt first on the next hole, even if someone else got closest on the last hole...this game will sharpen your lagging skills and your close putt skills...we play it for dough, not much but enough to make you play...you will find yourself closer to all the holes on far lags and making those lil annoying 5 to 10 footers that will escape you when you are putting 'for nothing'...and of course, nothing beats practice, I personally do 3 to 5 different drills and putt 100 to 200 putts a day at least 3 times a week...nothing good comes free or without work...good luck and putt well!

Take one day, and instead of golfing, have a serious practice session on the practice green. Take about five balls, and make all different lengths of putts. Do short putts, mid-length, and lagt putts. Try dropping a ball in a random place and try to get it in a hole in as few strokes as possible.

Get on the practice green instead of the driving range and practice putts from longer range (20+'). Eventually, you'll have confidence in the short putt because the long ones will seem makeable.

"Meaningful" practice works every time for me, e.g., personally I have never putted better than when our regular four-ball arrived an hour before our tee-time and we played putting matches on the practice green for the after-round drinks.
Now retired and either playing or practicing every day, I often wonder why I have my ups and downs since I now know that my shot-making and putting skills vary daily without any apparent reason. Good competitive pressure rather than practice seems to bring out the best in me, but then, sometimes all it takes is a bacon and egg breakfast :-)

pick a club you do hit well and pretend your putter is that club.
I hit my sand wedge really well and I hold my putter exactly the same way and tell myself, I'm just going to cram this ball right into the hole!!

when you go and practice at the driving range, dont spend all of ur time hitting golf balls, go to the putting green and put, for a long time and work on your stroke and feel.

So that is what they're calling it now "putting" Hey, every guy has had that loss of confidence in knowing he can hole it....and who hasn't lost confidence in their "putter"?

The grass is always greener on the fairway....(not sure what that means)

Don't worry about it. At least you don't have to keep thinking about baseball.....
