I have just seen people going on about that global warming isn't an issue! Have you been blind for the past couple of years? Have you never heard of antartica! If you don't watch out you Great- Grandchildren/Grandchildren will see the effects in their lifetime, i bet i will too because of my age, And its all because someone left a lousy light on in the kitchen when they went to bed or left the tv on when no one was in there? Antartica is melting because the o-zone layer is getting thin so the sun is getting more heat to earth and don't forget, Antartica is ice. What is ice? WATER its going to make sea levels rise! Soon we'll be the new atlantica!
SORT IT OUT PEOPLE THE GOVERMENT OBVIOUSLY AREN'T DOING ANYTHING
(Sorry by the way.. this is more of a rant than a question.. i'll make it even now...)
What do you think then?

I'm with you. There's plenty of good data here (far more than the deniers have behind them):
http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf
I'm continually amazed that people think the vast majority of the climatologists (reference below) are wrong, neglect obvious natural causes, are falsifying science, or are engaged in a massive conspiracy. They're not stupid and they know that science is effective in exposing mistakes (cold fusion, polywater, etc.) and boom, your career is finished.

There is much less controversy about man's important role in global warming in the scientific community and with political and business leaders both conservative and liberal, than there is in the general public. The media showcases the few dissenters.
If this was a Superbowl the team of scientists supporting human responsibility for global warming would be a 200 point favorite.
EDIT dsl167. Check out the reference I provided as backup to "vast majority". And the IPCC report was reviewed by thousands of participating scientists. Obviously they all couldn't write it.
You're right about "Antarctica". Just substitute "the Arctic" and everything he says is true. Not an error that makes much difference in this context.

You cannot force people to believe in something that they do not want to. It would be too simple to change a few things that would effect the environment positively. They do not want to be inconvenienced by changing the way they are doing things. Re-cycling takes too much time and effort, and so does turning out the lights with you leave the room. So does driving a vehicle that is more economical. Regardless of whether this effects global warming or not, it does make our air dirty to breathe, water pollution, and does deplete our natural resources if nothing else. So if this will change things in our environment just so we can be healthier, I am all for it.
I saw the documentary about Antartica melting and how all the wildlife that live there are in danger of extinction. About 3 miles a day is being lost. It is hard to deny that is happening after you watch the documentary.

The world's climate during any particular epoch is mainly dependent upon the disposition of the dry land portions of tectonic plates upon the Earth's surface relative to each other and the stretches of ocean that separate them. Variations in solar output and deviations in the Earth's orbit, axial tilt etc are significant only in short term fluctuations as are cometary impacts and extreme vulcanism.
Arguements about climate variation in historic time really are irrelevant when it comes to global warming. We simply do not have the ability at the moment to separate natural variations from possible man-made variations.
Personally I see the global warming arguement as part of a larger one that certain countries are hogging the lion's share of global resources, while others are making the same polluting mistakes that the West did while attempting to develop to obtain a fairer share of the world's bounty.
The developed world is quite rightly concerned that the failures of the last 200 years of laissez-faire industrial revolution are being repeated by the developing nations. The answer does not lie in preventing development, however, but in sharing more equitably the existing resources and providing the technology to develop sustainably instead of trying to profit from this type of 'intellectual property'.

Sorry, but we can see another point of view is well: Global Warming that we experiencing right now is not something new. It did happened before without human being intervention. You have to instead of panic about that read between the lines. Global Warming affect everyone and you kind of cannot get out. Government charge us more without any constructive action about it. It is like a terror alert: always on, always terrifying. But WHY all out of sudden started to talk about it?! It predicted ages ago. Why now? The answer is, i am afraid, now it is just business. Just petrify you to death and get more from you. I think if we all start just recycle more, re-use more, be care full with simple things in our life (how many bags do you use for shopping? How often you go to recycle things? how many people bother to do that? ext)

I've heard of Antarctica. Scientists, including the proponents of global warming at the IPCC, are telling us that Antarctica is cooling, not warming. In addition, the satellite temperature measurements performed by NASA show that Antarctica is cooling not warming. Because Antarctica is cooling, the ice sheet there are actually getting thicker, not melting.
Whoever told Antarctica is melting was pulling your leg.
Bob,
How many climatologists are there in the world, and how many of them make up the 'vast majority' that believe in man made global warming? The IPCC report (which by the way indicates no warming in Antarctica) is authored by 33 Drafting Authors and 18 Draft Contributing Authors. Are these 51 people the 'vast majority' of climatologists in the world?

Yes, we thinking people have been turning a blind eye. We're blind from looking through all the hype. If you really, truly, researched the issues and gave some thought to why people are saying what they are on both sides of the fence, you wouldn't have posted this question. You're another one of the herd mentality who evidently can't think out of the box. Because you saw it on TV or read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true - there's a good tip to start with.
Way to say it, dsl67!!

in case you want to obtain grant funds for climate study, do you imagine that you receives a cheque if you're saying," i desire the grant, as i imagine that i visit coach that the figures that the present paradigm is depending upon are incorrect" ? the large environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. there continues to be no shown causative link between the quantity of Co2 contained in the ambience, and an boost in global temperatures. The WWWF pictures of the polar bears swimming were taken contained in the Arctic summer season; even as the ice cap in part melts, as they couldn't upward thrust up to photo contained in the wintry climate. The ice became too thick! The East-Anglian uni study figures. "Oh! The figures do not tournament our expectancies. Oh properly. save quiet. because all of us understand that we are suitable." even as the concept, and the religion is more suitable significant than squarely dealing with the valid doubts of truly some non grant-supported scientists, technology has been superceded by technique of religious zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully stated." I pray thee, contained in the bowels of Christ, evaluate that thou mayest be incorrect."
