I don't want to get any plants that are poisonous to my cat in any way.

In response to the first answer I received, there are many plants that are not safe to have around if you have cats. Cats often chew on the leaves and that can be dangerous. For instance, poinsetta is very poinsonous.

Please only leave a response if you actually know the answer. I don't need any guesses or assumptions.

you should give the cat something to scratch (they arent healthy or happy without that) they might dig in the dirt but other than that cats usually wont bother ANY house plants

you can a couple mothballs to house plants if your cat does mess with the plants. CAUTION: not too many mothballs or it will kill the plant

Lilies are very bad - keep those easter lilies away in the next few weeks... on the other hand, I had a pretty little pansy in a pot, and a cat who loves to eat flowers... he ate that thing down so many times it finally gave up and stopped growing back - but some people use pansies in their salads, they're safe enough.

Since a vet will tell you one thing and a florist will tell you another, I gave up trying to have any plant around with cats living here. Just not worth the chance.

Well, I must have done something that I am not even aware of!! I have had at least 6 cats over my lifetime (if not more) and I have NEVER had one of them eat my plants. Bat them yes! Dig in the dirt - yes! Rip the leaves with the claws - yes! But never ate them -- I even had poinsettias every Christmas.

What houseplants arent safe? as long as you dont have any specicides sprayed on the plant then they are all fine. Becareful though, cats love to eat houseplants and they will be gone before you know it.
