I've read "of mice and men", John Steinbeck. what could you recommend from his other works or similar works?

i am particularly interested in looking at the affects of the depression and mental illness (including how it was percieved in the past) and the depression on the civillians

His book "the Grapes Of Wrath" is a must read it deal with the emotional and physical toll that the depression has on a family."Cannery Row " is also great just read the book before you see the movie.

any of John Steinbeck's works are great and has a similar theme in all his novels. I really enjoyed reading "The Pearl" and "East of Eden" which are similar to "Of Mice and Men" in my opinion.
