Your pug isn't a child that will hide their mistakes...either by eating it or hiding it.

I can guarantee that your pug has a worm infestation. This type of infestation can go unchecked during the first rounds at a vet's office. You need to bring a stool sample in to be checked.

Young dogs most times eat their own poop, because of this type of infestation. The poo smells sicky sweet. Unfortunately they re-infect themselves and other dogs who are in the yard.

Both dogs nned to be checked.

If it is the worms, you need to be quite thorough in cleaning up your yard. the bacteria does not die in the cold, but will become active again with warm weather. Clean up as best you can, then rinse with hot water.

After they are on meds. all their bedding and toys need to be washed. Wash your floors for the first few days.

Good Luck.

Hitting a dog doesn't do any good. It only makes them suspicious of you and damages them emotionally so stop that bad behavior (your) right now.

Of course, it might be the worm issue which is easily fixed by the way but even it it is, you have the bigger problem of Riley now developing this bad habit.

Has Riley always had this problem? Did you get him at a pet store? So many pet stores don't use common sense in storing their puppies that they set future owners up for house training failure by making the animals relieve themselves in the same small cage.

Regardless of the reason, you will need to do some UN-training before expecting Riley to be crate trained. Un-training takes a lot more patience and it's a lot easier to keep bad habits from forming than to try and break them.

BTW: How often is "let him out as often as possible"?
When he's out, does he go? Do YOU go out with him until he DOES go?

So here's how you should proceed:

Call your vet and tell them you need a fecal test for worms. You simply take a specimen (sample of the dogs poop as fresh as possible) into the vet and they will analyze it and report back to you. They don't usually need to see the animal if they've been in before.

While I wouldn't rule out the worming problem Riley definitely seems to have developed some bad habits that will need to be corrected...without punishment.

Good Luck!

You should take the cage and clean it completely make sure that you cant smell any odor poop. You should also probably move the location of the cage. Put down a newspaper in the cage and that will help to clean up if your pug poops again. I had the same problem with my Chihuahua so if the problem continues e-mail me at ricanbonita04@yahoo.com

Why, exactly, do you even own a dog? Clearly you are not prepared to give it the time and attention that this type of animal needs. I suggest getting a stuffed pug, that will never poop where you don't want it to. They do not care about being kept in a kennel, either.

How big of a crate do you have him in ???
Sometime's by putting a small dog in a large crate he/she can get the idea part is for sleeping & part is the bathroom..
I had a English Bulldog that kept messing in her crate every time I put her in their & went down a size & she totally stopped doing it..
You don't want the crate too small though..

Also some breeder's encourage this as a "first step" in potty training ( I do & have for year's) So it could even be a hold over from the breeder's ??

Best Of Luck :)

Also, there are different remedies to try to keep your dog from eating his poop. I have read to put a little pinapple juice in his food or put Accent in his food also (this should be in the spice section of the store).
Also, try to give the dogs as much attention as you can. I have a pug and all she wants is more and more attention.
Try not to hit the dog either.
You should go to www.pugs.com, there is a lot of information there.

Dogs don't poop where they sleep unless they simply can no longer physically hold it. Give the crate a detailed cleaning and take Riley out more often-especially after eating. Don't smack him for pooping for goodness sake.

don't smack him and please have him checked for worms and how often are you taking him out to pee and poop should be every couple of hours. Cause when you just cant hold it any longer accidents are gonna happen.
