If the "Idol" doesn't pretend to be a God then we have no problem.
The true teaching of God is not in the letter of the bible but it is in the spirit of the Bible.
If you build an idol and worship it then you are a sinner. If you watch a sow with a tittle that has idol in it then nothing happens.

I didn't make American Idol. Idol is a word with a couple meanings anyway. You can look up to a person and call them an idol. God is referring to worshipping other gods. I view those two things as different. American Idol doesn't bother me, as I don't worship it.

I like the show but I never voted so I didn't make an idol. You know Carrie Underwood has had great success from that show and her song Jesus Take The Wheel is pretty inspirational. Isn't God great?!
May God Bless you.

I'd boycott it for being boring, but I don't think any theist that watched it would be idolizing the contestants simply because the program uses the word idol in its title.

I couldn't care less about American Idol, Survivor, Nashville Star, or any of those shows. But, really, my decision has nothing to do with being a Christian. So, no, I'm not boycotting, I'm just not interested in those shows.

It's just a play of words. I don't think there's anything wrong with the actual show, but I guess it's a problem on the viewers behalf if they "idolize" the contestants or whatever.

I am a born-again, Bible-believing Christian, and I personally think there is nothing wrong with this show except the name. Many people do get too involved with the show, because it's fun, but it's in no way sinful. It's a very misleading name, to be sure, but the show itself is harmless.

Ya know, I thought I was the only one that felt that way. I started watching it one season but at the end the whole audience was waving lifted hands swaying back and forth as if having some sort of spiritual experience. It repulsed me as a Christian and I've never watched it since.

Many things could be classified as IDOLS...................Television, movie stars, Music, ............even the flag and saluting it could be an act of worship..... And the #1 Idol that people ignorantly use daily : THE CROSS
I believe it is up to your conscience and Your relationship with GOD!
