it depends on what you want to save and is what is worth saving. you can always do backups or if you have the system restore disk to the pc ... use them first.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO FORMAT THE DRIVE>

When you boot to the windows install cd you can tell windows to replace the old operating system. This will erase the windows directory and install a fresh un touched copy of windows. Leaving your data intact. You will however have to re-install all of the other programs you have on the machine to reconnect the data to the software.

the bets thing to do is trawl through you system and save everything that you want to keep to another hard drive( you can get a small capacity external usb one cheaply) when you have everything safely stored you can re-install your operating system....you could spend days using spy ware/ad-ware/malware....and if any are deep rooted you wont get rid of them....be careful where you surf...make sure you have a good firewall esp if your on broadband...and never turn off your firewall to view content that the firewall is stopping...your only asking for trouble and you will quickly find that you have to re-install all over again....and remember to always defrag your hard drive....if your watching video, playing audio or editing video/ audio then your hard drive will become fragmented quickly....think about defraging once a week when your not using the pc....you will find the Zone-labs do a great firewall/spy-ware suite...run it daily and your pc should run fine....hope this helps

reinstall as a last resort, use a utility like spybot search and destroy to check what's starting up with windows, defrag the hard drive, make space on the hard drive if its full, use a registry utuluty to clear out the crap, increase the mem if possible, all this will speed it up. Reinstalling will only provide a temporary fix.

Clithes? I wouldnt reinstall windows! I would try and clean out the system first! Chances are its spyware or adware, maybe some other form of malware! What good is reinstallation if you are going to turn right around and infect it again? Take the time to get this crap out of your system and maybe you will learn where it comes from!
File sharing sites, porn sites, and freeware are probably where you acumulated it! Remember! This stuff didnt load itself! You did!

Hi,
This is simple just burn or your important data to CD / DVD first before you reformat your Hard Drive, but this is to easy so you must still have problems, try copying or your data to "Memory stick 2Gb" (which is a lot of data) they are only about £25 now. Hope this helps.
