My cat has watery eyes and he is sneezing (not a lot though). This has happened before where he was sneezing a lot and it just went away with time. He is two years old by the way.

I don't know if I can take him to the vet, it's very hard to because he doesn't like being in the car (we learned the hard way). Should I just wait until he gets better or get some medication? He has not lost his appetite, he is still eating and just sleeps a lot. So I am not sure if it is something to worry about or if it is a cold.

Thanks so much for your help I highly appreciate it.

Please don't wait too long! I had a kitty who got a cold, it seemed to get better, but then her breathing became shallow and she died on me. I have deep regrets for not taking her to the vet, even though she hated going.
My cat was only 10 years old when this happened...don't know if age played a part or not.

Cats do not get "colds" but rather upper respiratory infections which have similar symptoms to that of a human cold....sneezing, runny nose/eyes, etc. Your cat may have a slight infection, I would take him to the vet if it does not improve, they will put him on a dose of antibiotics. It could also be an allergy as well..keep an eye on him and see if symptoms get worse or better. No, he can not catch a cold from your wife or daughter, most viruses are species specific and cannot be passed between two different species.

It might just be allergies, or something - but the only way to be sure about it and safe for your cat (colds can be a sign of something *really* wrong for the cat) is to take him to the vet - do you have a pet carrier for him? If you don't, I recommend one... esp. if sleeping "a lot" isn't normal for him - having less energy can also be a bad sign.

I have a cat of my own, and believe me cats can get a cold. What you can do is give him a couple of days if he does not get better than you may have to suffer the car ride to the vet.

Though taking him into a small town feed store can work they can even help you administer medicine or a shot that can help him instead of blowing a load of dough at the vet.

Have you brought anything new into the home he could b e allergic to? Or gone through a cleaning spree and maybe kicked up dust? Hope it clears up soon.
