are their guidelines for luggage strict? I talked to a rep from Amtrack and she told me that the luggage has to be certain measurements like 24x32x15 or whatever but are they really strict with that or can I bring my adidas bag, its the medium soccer bag and maybe some other bag?

Amtrak is normally very generous about bags, and your soccer bag will definitely not be a problem. Realize YOU will be the one carrying your stuff, though. Make sure you can handle whatever luggage you intend and especially that you can maneuver it up narrow stairs (which is important on Amtrak). The main concern Amtrak usually has is weight, rather than size. There's technically a 50 pound limit on baggage, and if your bag is particularly large it could get weighed.

It depends on how full the train is; I bought a luggage set while in Chicago, and filled all the bags up. They only had an issue when I tried to keep it in the seat with me, so I asked them to put it in the overhead storage for me (it was rather large and heavy). This wasn't a problem, but then, we didn't have a full route, since I was able to get a seat to myself.
