I would disagree with Mr. Rescher on this subject. The origin of philosophy lies in the attempt to understand reality and try to live a better life. This will of course include what one has inherited from one's culture, but this is not the origin of philosophy. The origin lies in man's natural wonder of things around him. We are indeed inculturated by our society and inheret systems of meaning (e.g. a certain language), but this in no wise fuels philosophy or drives it. One merely needs to look back throughout history to see the many philosophers who have concluded that their culture is incorrect about certain issues to see this. True philosophy is done in the absence of presupposed propositions. I am sure that you are familiar with Plato's allegory of the cave, but if not I recommend you there.

Philosophy is an attempt to KNOW something about reality.

It is an inevitable circumstance that philosophers will be influenced by their positionality (their culture's endoxa...)

But to suggest that this desire to KNOW is actually from some latent attempt to REMAIN "in the dark" sounds way too Freudian...

So if i'm right what you are saying is" The more you know the less you know".
THat's i think what makes it fun. If everything had a finite answer we would soon run out of questions. Then what ?
