This Coming Monday 2 of our male male kittens kittens are getting fixed. one is 9 months old the other 6! what can i do to prep them,keep them comfortable and clean,and keep them from eating anything past 9.00 p.m sunday night? can you explain what might happen in PRE-OP,SURGERY,AND RECOVERY ROOM,ESPECIALLY Pre-Op Area?

they will be given an injection to sedate them, then the scrotum area hair will be plucked and cleaned, a small incision will be made just enough to "POP" the testicles they are removed no stitches will be put in ( the area needs to drain and cats will usually pull them out any way. the cat will then be taken to a recovery monitored for any bleeding and until he has came out of the anesthesia. its a real simple process, good luck with the boys.

Easiest way to keep them from eating anything is to not leave anything out - make sure dishes are gone/empty, your counters are clear, keep them inside for the night, etc. Water usually has to be picked up by about midnight, too, depending on what time they're going in for surgery. When they're used to having food around, they might fuss a little bit about not getting to eat just because they feel like it, but a little TLC (cuddling, not treats, of course) will probably calm them down.

Don't know details on the pre-op or surgery, recovery will probably mean sitting in a kennel and getting checked on frequently while they wake up, probably with a dose of painkillers already in their systems.
