The Universe does not exist for all the purposes that are not contained in the purpose of expansion. The energy which creates this expanding Universe is the energy of appreciation, love, and joy which are synonymous. This is eternal. Everything else is illusion and has no real substance.

since you have this under Philosophy i gather you are relating Universe as it pertains to that of one's worldly experiences.
I would say probably for the purpose of those who are in denial. It seems to be the obvious explanation. I mean it seems that the existence of my universe is denied on a daily basis because i tend to speak the truth and many do not wish to face or otherwise hear it.
That is just one purpose i know you said purposeES...i wish i could think of another one. I never was very good in Philosophy.
That is my opinion on this matter.

the purpose of not having any purpose. the universe is limitless. but according to science, the duckbilled platapus is the only thing i know the universe doesn't exist for.

the universe does not exist for man.we are just a by product in time and nature like the dinosaurs.the pathetic part of it all is that man wont last very long at all.
