The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Fad diets work for a week or two but then you gain it back with interest.
Cut out junk food. If it comes in a sealed polythene bag with bright colours on the front, it's not for you.
Cut out caffienated drinks which are usuallly associated with cake or biscuits.
Drink plenty of water. A lot of times we interpret thirst as hunger. At least 2 litres a day.
Take the stairs whenever possible instead of the elevator.
Get off the bus a stop or two early, or park farther from your destination.
Walk at least 30 min a day.
Eat more vegetables and fruits, less meat and dairy. (For excellent fruit and veg recipes, check out www.vegweb.com)
No white sugar, no white flour, no white fat.
Cut back on alcohol.
Get plenty of good sleep at night, that will give you more energy during the day.
Sign up for an aerobic-type class, or swimming. It's best to exercise with others so you don't get bored. You can go with a friend, or make friends at the gym.

First, diets do not work!
Secondly, the word lose has a negative affect.
from the time you were born you have associated the word 'lose' with negative feelings. ie- Don't lose the baby's soother..don't lose your mitts, homework, job, husband, car keys etc...etc...etc...
So when you say you want to 'lose' 20 pounds your subconscious says, " Sure and I'll find it again!" and maybe an extra ten just to feel good.
Change your wording and talk of "Taking control of your weight management". You want to remove fat and tone your muscles!
Ask yourself what purpose does the 'fat' serve.
Sometimes we put on weight, comfort food. Sometimes it's a self-defense move.
Do you breathe high or low?
Just by breathing low (through the diaphragm) you will drop 10-15 pounds.

Start walking every day. Get an MP3 player and listen to great music and/or a recording of yourself encouraging you to take control. Talking of how good your going to look and feel. How others are going to notice.
Dress warm enough that you will sweat. Carry pure water with you. The more you sweat the more you will drop!
Go by yourself! It's a load of bunk that working out with a group is better. The truth is when you work out with a group and do not achieve at their rate you feel like a total washout.
Scenario: Your a waiter/waitress and your carrying a tray of fifty glasses into a party room. One falls!
What do you do?
The correct answer is continue on!
Same with setting your goal! If you mess up do not let guilt take over. "Disappointment is a fact of life; discouragement is a choice!"

You have just the right amount of time to do it in a sensible way that will keep the weight off ,I think you would be best to join a slimming club like weight watchers or slimming world join one where you can see other members have lost weight it will be good to have the support of others and advice as you go along. The whole club will then be pleased for you when you reach your goal also being a member of a club will help you keep it off when you get there. Good luck and enjoy the wedding x

calories ! making sure you burn more calories than you consume is the most practical way to lose weight. there are sites out there to assist like sparkspeople.com and calorie count.com ive lost 20 lb with them in a few months. and after a month i wasnt really using it since i had the hang of it. a diet high in veggies and protein, reduced fat and junk and 3 x 30 minutes of working out a week and you can do it! good luck and congrats!

Cut out all sugar from your diet...that's it. You will start dropping pounds after all the sugar has left your system. I did this and lost 30 pounds...just remember absolutely no sugar and if you must indulge, require yourself to exercise for 2 half hour periods for each serving. Good Luck.

You should be fine to go on the most basic of diets with some additional exercise to lose your 20lbs. If you are unable to increase your exercise and eat less have a look at Proactol.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Eat more fruits and vegetables, but stay away from fast foods, unless you want to get one of those salad places, subway would be the best since they have a lot of vegeatables on their subs. Also, drink plenty of water or tea and excercise daily (maybe half hour in the morning and half hour in the afternoon).
