Most of our founders were not Christians, although many did believe in a creator. They stressed religious tolerance above all else. Why in the world would Deists trying to escape a theocratical country form a theocratic nation?

You think because the word God is used that makes it Christian. Study your history folks. It's not true.

But why isn't religous tolerance good enough? Why do you have to convince yourself that the founders worshiped your God and your Jesus. Haven't you ever wondered why Jesus was never mentioned by the Founders?

Do you realize Barack Obama was sworn in on Thomas Jefferson's Quran? He was an educated man, learned in all religions, and did not favor one over the other.

Why isn't it good enough that the founding fathers wanted you to have the freedom to be Christians? And for me to be a pagan! Why? Seriously?

I don't mean to get so angry, I just feel many Christians miss the whole POINT of why our country was founded.

My great....grandfather came here in 1710 to escape religious persectution. Why would he go to a country that was the same way?

Rachel I really don't care if you think your religion is the only one that saves. I'm talking about our country.

In fact, Thomas Jefferson's spiritual advisor was Joseph Priestly, the founder of this church:

Many of the founding fathers were Christian. Thomas Jefferson was not, you're right on that. George Washington definitely was. I believe that using the principles in the Bible, they had the wisdom to not create a country that had a state religion. That is the wisdom of the constitution. They were escaping from a society that did that, and instead of just making the religion the one they wanted, they wisely chose religious freedom instead and allowed for free worship. This nation is NOT Christian, though I believe that it is founded on Christian principles.

The reason the term Deist is not enough, is that it isn't true. If someone is a Christian, I will call them that. Satan is a diest if you get technical. He believes in God, and he's 100% sure of His existence.

Honey, you really have a lot to learn. The only reason Thomas Jefferson had a quran was to understand the enemy. Muslims were pirating and slave trading around places like Tripoli and Jefferson wanted to know who these animals were. There are so many problems with your question including that it wasn't Obama who was sworn in on that quran. Go read a history book and a newspaper please.

May God Bless you.

That's an issue that America is really stressing right now: "Celebrate Tolerance." "If your way feels right, it's right." However, John 14:6 says, "Jesus said to them, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.'" Jesus specifically says in this verse, and in many others in the New Testament, that He is the ONLY way to get to God and Heaven. Yes, we are a free country, so you have the liberty to believe anything you want, but when it comes down to it, only One religion saves.
