I'm assuming you're talking about the temple garments, which and LDS person will only wear after participating in some Temple ordinances.
I am LDS, I wear them, and I'll do my best to answer your questions:
Are they comfortable? - absolutely - way more comfy than the wedgie inducing undies I used to buy at the store before deciding to go to the temple and wear them.
They are basically and under shirt, and sort of boxer short/biker short type bottoms (having two pieces means no bum-flap is needed). There are lots of different cloths to choose - I personally really like the silky ones.
They only come in white (obvious Christian purity symbolism there), and yes it would be seen a disrespectful to glam them out (but you know, we can wear other, sexy things for intimate husband-wife moments).
They do not stop bullets, or are "magic" as some people put it. They're primary purpose is to serve as a physical reminder of promises we've made to God. Many religions have an item of clothing they wear as a reminder of their promises - some wear hats, some wear robes, or collars - I think the main reason ours is underwear instead of outerwear is that we have no paid clergy - and every last one of us has to be able go about our different daily employments and duties without anything getting in the way.
Anyway, there's your straightforward honest answer, from someone who wears them - I hope that helps.

The person who first answered is a new convert. I think she asked a question just prior to getting baptized a few months ago, so she probably hasn't been to the temple to even do baptisms yet. So cut her a break.
Daisy answered everything, it think. But I'll add that any detergent will do, although I was told by the Temple Matron when I got my endowment to not use bleach when washing them as it will eventually discolor them. I didn't for a long time, then I tried bleach when I was close to getting ready for new ones and it does make them a little dingy looking in comparison to the brand new ones.
And I agree that they are VERY comfortable. No more wedgies! I think the ones for those serving in the military are sort of a camo brown color (solid color, not actually camouflaged) but other than that, they're all white.

I like you're question. Along with curiousity about that myself, I think it's cute, and I personally know many Mormons who would not take offense.
I was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Sorry I can't help more.
If I had the time right now I would put it through Wikipedia, they have the best answers on everything.
Good Luck, I'll watch you're question, hope you get a satisfying answer!

I agree with tonya and daisy...I wear them also and they are so comfortable. I have never performed any magic and never been shot at ...so.....don't know about that.
They, along with many many things in the gospel, are basically a symbol of covenants made. I use Oxyclean and Tide detergent to keep them nice and white...has worked so far. And yes, it probably wouldn't please the Lord too much if we defiled them in any way.

I would assume so, they all wear them. No. No. Any detergent will do. Yes, white. Yes, they are a sign of modesty and are sacred.
