I'm going out of town for a week. I asked one of my co workers who lives down the street just to check on my cat twice and make sure that her food dish is full. Do you think that $50 is a fair amount of pay for doing this. BTW, she is not required to clean the litter box or anything...

She didn't request any money. I know that last time she took care of my cat, she spent a couple hours there playing with her so my cat wasn't so lonely even though i said she didn't have to. I really appreciated her doing that. She cleaned the little box last time too when I told her not to bother. I just thought $50 would do since I know that she is a very busy person and unfortunately, broke. Was I wrong to mix work with home??? I didn't think there was anything wrong with it but apparently....

I think that next time you go out of town, I would be willing to check on your cat!

I think it's fair and for $50 you should have your co-worker to clean the little box. If you don't that litter box is going to be a big mess and the cat won't like it at all as cats are very clean animals.

if you are only asking her to go over twice for a whole week just to make sure there is food and water. probably $50 is a little much it is entirely up to you if that is what you want to pay her. if she fed and watered and did the litter box every day I would consider that $50 is a pretty fair rate.

but for just twice, I would say $15-$20, since she really doesn't have to do much.

I think that $50 is more than fair pay, especially if she dosen't have to go out of her way to get to your house ..and also you're only asking her to check your cat's food dish. i know some people that would do something like this for free. hope that helps

Way too much just to check the food dish twice. If you have to go with the coworker, and he/she won't do this without payment, offering $20 is more than fair - and never ask this person again.

$50 is way too much (unless they live more than 100 miles away or something like that).

Even $25 for two visits is a little much.

Wife and I are currently being paid $10/day to take care of 3 animals -- daily -- including cleaning up their messes, and we think that is more than fair.

No, it is not fair pay, it is too high. But you have put yourself in a quandry. You have asked a co worker, you should not have mixed this with the work enviroment. What feelings will be hurt and ramifications come about if you do not follow through?? You should go ahead and pay the co worker to do it and learn from this. Some things should be compartmentalized. You should not have mixed workplace with home here. It could turn out to be the most expensive $50.00 you have had in a long time if you do not follow through. Good Luck, enjoy your trip.

Are you being that generous or is she asking for $50? For $50 she should come everyday and scoop the box.

Yes it's fair amount. I would ask her to also clean the litterbox if she can. You are going to be out of town for a week and litterboxes get pretty nasty after about 3-4 days.
