Hi I'm a 20 years old girl suffering from pastular acne and I have been taking oral antibiotics since 2001. I took doxycline until 2005 before my acne flares up again. My doctor then prescribed me erythromycin which worked for a few months before I started breaking out again and it was back to doxycycline for me. Now my doctor has prescribed me minocycline, will it worked since it is the same class as doxycycline or should I try other acne treatments such as oral contraceptives?

Minocycline might work great for you, even still!

Each drug is a little different. Typically, the bacteria develop resistance to erythromycin...and even doxycycline, but resistance to minocycline is very rare.

You definitely do not want to get pregnant on these medications...so I hope you are not sexually active.

Long-term use of these antibiotics is not without risks, too...and I would talk to your doctor about this. I would also recommend seeing a dermatologist, if you aren't currently.

There are other treatments other than antibiotics that might work for you...and if particularly severe, you might even want to consider accutane. But this is not a light decision, given all the potential side effects of this medication.

In any event, I am digressing from your question!

I bet you will see great results with minocycline...it is a great drug...and considered "better" than the others (though the others are often tried first)...

Hope this helped some...!

do not unavoidably think of of antibiotics as being "better" than others. even however the two are appropriate, their skill to objective micro organism is going to be diverse--even cousin antibiotics have somewhat diverse effectiveness against diverse bugs. in terms of how lengthy earlier you notice an "result," for what reason are you taking low does antibiotics on an extremely properly-known foundation?
