You keep saying that we'd better believe because we'll go to HELLLLLLL! Just think about it for a second. What kind of Supreme Being gets people to believe in them by threats? Heck, what kind of earthly human parent would get children to respect them that way? You don't really respect an authority figure that makes you mind them on threat of death or pain.

Please, all of you can't be like this, can you?

No, we're not all like that...

People that push that doctrine are regurgitating the words of ignorant preachers.

Christianity is about strength, peace, and friendship. Read up on Jesus and some of his actions in life, and you will be at a closer understanding with what it is about than you will listening to a redneck flabber his/her mouth about who is going to hell and when.

No we are not all that way some are in mature Christians that haven't grown up yet.But I will give a better example, If you were driving down a road that I knew that if you continue that way you would drive off a cliff, but you did not know about it,now if I didn't tell you you'll probably die,but because I don't want that to happen because I care I would try to stop you and warn you, this is not a threat I'm telling you because God tells us to speak of the good news that we don't have to go in that direction there is another way that we can live. I hope this help if it made any sense to you.

First off, I'm sorry if you get that kind of impression from most Christians. I hate those kinds of things too. I'm a Christian and I know what you mean when all people do is threaten. And a lot of times people get their impression of God from Christians and its like what the crap? If God's just some kind of guy that bribes your love with life or death then screw that. But if you really take a look at what God is, he really is just a figure of love. Thats the point God = Love. When we love somebody, when we care about somebody, we are showing Gods true character. However, He's also a God of free will. He won't make you follow him. But He just wants you to know the consequences, because He cares about you. You're his creation whether you choose to follow him or not. He just wants to give you the best you can have. Not only that, but he wants to be with you forever, and he died a horrible death for you so he could do that. Because he loves you. Again, I'm sorry if Christians give a bad impression of Christ.

Alot of christians haven't finished reading all of the bible. Let me first say that there is a judgment in which the wicked perish by fire and it tales place in one turn 24 hour turn of the globe, not eternity.

Alot of the sadistic eternity in hell fire theology comes from this bad translation from the original greek texts in Rev.

REV 20V
10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night "for ever and ever".

The words

"for ever and ever"

Weren't in the original greek testament of Revelation.

But yes the wicked face death by fire, and the result death and ashes lasts forever.

Torment doesn't last forever.

REV 21v
4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I am a debt collector. I have had debtors come into the office, wearing their crosses like good little Christians, and scream at me that God is going to send me straight to hell for forcing them to pay their debts. When I calmly inform them that I do not believe in hell or their god, but I do believe in the legal system and the lawsuit I have filed against them, they turn an amazing shade of purple and say many many more things that I really don't think should be repeated here.

It really comes down to this. Jesus Christ believed in Hell, and He was willing to be crucified to keep men from going there. Otherwise what was the point of His dying?
All of the sophisms in the world cannot contradict this plain teaching and warning in Scripture. As for the reference to all being children of God, this is not what the Bible teaches (See John 8:38-44 and Ephesians 2:1-3). That is why Jesus said "You must be born again."
Did you think the Lake of Fire and Brimstone was a sauna?

Threats from those that are bible freaks have turned many away from Christian beliefs. I think hell is right here on earth and we create our own hell. One also ought to think about this for a minute ... if one wanted to CONTROL someone, wouldn't they threaten them with some horrible punishment - if they didn't somehow COMPLY with the freak who was making the threat? Now, how lame can someone get??? We are supposed to live in a free and open society yet in some areas, if you don't partake in some religious group you are labeled. There are laws to protect us, but who can actually afford to take bible freaks to court? I won't let someone make a wise *** threat against me. If they do, they might meet my friends - Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson!!!!

No we are not all like that. But seriously, no one but God has the power, authority, or ability to make the decision as to who goes where. He does so based on your response to Him. And His desire to extend mercy and love.
As far as the "judge not, lest ye be judged". Labgrrr is almost correct, but the verses actually read (KJV) "Judge not, that ye be not judged For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Matthew 7:1-2
In other words, I am in no position to judge anyone else (that is sentence them to either life or death) and should I take up that position, then I had better be aware that the manner in which I judge a person is the way in which I will be judged when that day comes. If I am able to be merciful, then I will be given mercy, but not in the same measure which only God can give. So it is better to let God, in His infinite mercy be the judge of all.

Do you know of a religion that does not have some threat in its verses that would not have you condemned or ostracized in some fashion for not believing...

Pascals Wager

if you believe, and God exists, you gain everything. If you disbelieve, and god exists, you lose everything.

It makes more sense to believe in God than to not believe. If you believe, and God exists, you will be rewarded in the afterlife. If you do not believe, and He exists, you will be punished for your disbelief. If He does not exist, you have lost nothing either way.

The Athiest's Wager:

It is better to live your life as if there are no Gods, and try to make the world a better place for your being in it. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, He will judge you on your merits and not just on whether or not you believed in Him

I am not an Athiest...but i would rather the Athiest wager.

I missed the dialogue that evidently sparked the question.

You are correct...
witnessing and prostelitizing idealy, is about presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are spiritually blind, while at the same time, not apologizing nor shrinking back from earnestly contending for the faith as presented in the Word of God.

I think that God would have us present the Love of Christ to all and to some, the promise of eternal judgement.

Also, keep in mind, that many professing Christians on this forum are very young in the Lord and others are imposters, being deceived in themselves.

Jesus had a promise for professing Christians as well:That many would say to Him on that day,Did we not prophesy in your Name and cast out demons? And Jesus will turn to them and proclaim:Depart from me,you workers of lawlessness.."I NEVER KNEW YOU".(this is from memory,I think that I paraphrased the main idea accurately).

See, It is scary for us as well. What if I am in that group?

God, doesn't get you to believe in him by threats, why would the creator of all things have to do that, PEOPLE use threats, out of their limitedness. God gave us all a free will, so we could choose to love him, Jesus Greatest Commandment was to, love the lord your god with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first ,and the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the law and all the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Jesus may WARN us of things to come, out of love, God does love us enough to save everyone from hell that's why he will return, maybe not in our life time, no one knows the hour, but even if you died today, he would welcome you into heaven, if you give yourself to him. God Bless.
