It's always been y pinion that there are two kinds of love... (well three if you count family): Friendly and romantic. The only real difference between them is sexuality. You could, for example, love your best friend just as deeply as you love your spouse to whom youve been happily married for 20 years. The only reason that your best friend isn't your spouse is because you aren't sexually attracted to them, or aren't very sexually attracted to them.
To be in a romantic relationship with someone, you have to feel both mentaly and physically attracted to them. If you think someone is hot, but you don't respect their personality, then the relationship is purely sexual and means nothing. If you admire someone for their mannerisms and intelligence, but don't really find them sexually appealing, then the relationship should probably just be a friendship.
It sounds to me like your girlfriend would make an awsome friend, but isn't really what you want in a girlfriend. I know that that sort of thing can be really hard to break to someone, but from what you described, I think you really have to try.
And by what you said, no, I don't necessarily think you are shallow.

Ok so you like looks over personality. Well what happens when you and your hot chick go on a trip and have nothing to talk about? Well my friend? "What ya gonna do when the new wears off and the old shines through?" Keep the girl you have she sounds truly wonderful and you will regret it.
