Having been invited to a party where people stumble in with shiny boots, crroked bowties, sleek wine bottles and fingers covered with Band-Aid from badly arranged roses I decided to do the same. I pulled into the liquor store driveway in a new neighborhood and grabbed two bottles that looked exorbitantly priced but were excruciatingly cheap. The other bottle was for me and another dude in the car. So I go to the counter gal, set down the bottles and the change and ask her for a "cork puller".
She looked aghast, and muttered "excuse me?". I said "can I have a cork puller." She looked apoplectic and said "I will call the cops if you dont leave right now." I said "sure, if they want to help me open the bottle." The police soon came over and it was a female sergant. She asked what I wanted. I repeated "cork puller." Soon there were six patrol cars on site and I was finally let go after a Lieutanant who drinks regularly understood what I was saying. What should I tell the clerk next time?

Loved your story. Now i have an interesting story to tell at a party I am attending tomorrow. Once when we had guests over, our cork screw was giving trouble. My husband tried and tried in vain to open the wine bottle. Then the gentleman who was keen on the wine, got tired of waiting and decided to help my husband. They tried everything, first separately and then together.. finally in frustration, we saw my husband with the wine bottle between his thighs and the other guy gripping the cork screw and pulling with all his might. It was a really funny sight.. Your story brought back that memory.

Corkscrew is the name most ppl know it by. But the one you used could be used as well, or even a screwpull. My husband calls it a wine bottle opener. Knowing me I would of spelled it for her the second she asked.

This didn't really happen. But it's very funny. You should ask "Do you have something to pull the cork out?"

I guess in the future you learn to enunciate clearly.
Either that, or call it a "corkscrew." But make sure you enunciate this one clearly, too. :o)
