Ok I like this guy and I know he likes me too but we aren't dating or anything. Its kinda complicated. Anyways, Prom is coming up and this guy I like,G, can't come to Prom because of our school's rules. G told me that I should still go to Prom with someone so that I have a date because thats important at my school. So I worked it out with a friend of mine, S, to go to Prom with him, we both know its just as friends because we are both intrested in other people (the girl he likes can't come either). This was like a week ago, but since I agreed to go with this guy I feel crappy about it, at first I thought it would work out but the more I am with G it feels wrong to go with S. So now I think that I would rather skip prom or go without a date as opposed to go with S when I like G so much. So now my problem is can I back out on S or is it too late? And how do I do it? Prom is still 5 weeks away so there is plenty of time for S to find a new date. Please help me sorry this is confusing.

Why not just go with your friend and have a good time. It isn't like you are dating. Considering it hanging out at a fancy mall or something. No big thing.

It's not confusing at all you just feel bad because you can't take the person you want to so you asked someone else and you feel it's not right..Now I would say if you are that uncomfortable with going with this guy don't go it would only make you both unhappy on such a great day..Now I'm not sure about your rules but where I live you can bring someone who doesn't attend that school cause it is so special.. i wouldn't say skip prom all together you should go,, but maybe with a group of your female friends..now I would just tell this guy that you asked that it doesn't feel right to take someone whom you didn't originally intend to take and you don't want both of you to have a bad prom you would rather have him take someone else..It's to bad you couldn't con your school into letting you bring your guy that you like ....It's just such a shame now a days how the rules can't bend just a little so your prom can remain special

I don't understand why 'G' or 'S''s girlfriend can't go. Most proms allow 'outsiders' to go as dates. Talk to some of the administrators and explain the situation - maybe find out why the rules are that way. If you get the run-around, contact the school board. This is supposed to be a very important day for you - so work at getting the problem resolved quickly or you are at risk of having a horrible time on this occassion.
While I agree that backing out on 'S' is a sh/itty thing - if you can make it so his girlfriend is able to go, then problem solved. Just try to get something done in a timely fashion so that 'G' and 'S''s girl have time to prepare. If nothing can be done, it seems your best option would be to go ahead and go with 'S'. You should still go. Eventhough you really like this guy, you don't want to miss out on your prom. What happens if things don't work out with this guy? You'll go through life thinking about how much fun you would have had at your prom. Also, going to prom with a friend is awesome. There's not pressure and you can really act like yourself. I was in a similiar situation but opted to go with my good friend and we had a blast. Besides, S is probably stoked knowing he doesn't have to worry about finding a date and can worry about other things. If you back out, that's just another thing he has to worry about. If everyone is cool with the situation of prom, just follow through. You'll be happy you did.

You've only got one prom hun and its a big event. You don't want to look back and regret it. If both of you understand that its just as friends then you shouldn't feel bad or guilty. And if G is fine with it then go for it. You can go on a date with him anytime but like I said prom is one of those one time events. So go and have a good time or hun i really think you'll wish regret it and wish you had in the future. Good luck!

That happens to sound like the perfect solution for both of you. You are both involved with other people, and can go witha friend instead. If you back out on S, he won't be able to find another "friend" in the same situation, nor should you miss your prom. You will regret not going. Why don't you relax and have fun... it's not like you are cheating on your guy or anything.

Well...i think it would be quite crappy of you to back out on "s".
I mean, you said yourself that all of the parties involved know it's as friends only. Why don't you, and "s" go to prom and meet up with "G" and "s" 's girl later in the night. 5 weeks really isnt enough time, think how you would feel if "S" said screw you, find another date.
That's my take on it.

Listen to me: Go to the Prom w/or w/out a date. Don't miss out! I missed out on my prom b/c I was the only one w/o a date and now I regret it.

well here's what i would do.. just tell "S" that you want to go to prom still, but that it feels weird going with another guy. and tell "G" that you are still going, and that he should come to your house before you leave, and see how pretty you will be. Maybe that will even get "G" to ask you out!

DO NOT SKIP PROM YOU SHOULD GO YOU'LL REGRET IT! the best dance i went to was when i went with a bunch of my girlfriends that was sooooo fun better then going with a guy, tell s how you feel and get a bunch of your girls togther and go you will have 10xs more fun
