If by previous you mean previous years, yes you won't need that unless you are doing some complex stock averaging or something like that. For a typical return all you need are this years (2006) tax records...1099's, employer information, banking records, mortgage info, etc.

IMHO, no person needs to enhance taxes, yet all incoming administrations, everywhere interior the international, discover themselves in a poor place financially. somewhat if the previous administration spent 5 365 days lobbing $1M missiles at tents and empty caves in Afghanistan. Usually unless you have something complex on your return such as a capital loss carryover, depreciation from equipment if you are self employed, etc, a copy of past year returns aren't necessary. If you are having someone do them this year, ask them if they need them. If you need a copy, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and they'll send you transcripts. (Not the actual 1040 form, but you can get all the information you need from them) They do charge you for them, of course, though.

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, they can provide you with transcripts of your return and W2 information and have it mailed to you in 7 to 10 days, or by fax if you have access to a fax machine. If you need an actual photo copy of the return you would need to complete form 4506 and send that along with a check for 39.00 for each year to the service center where you filed, it will take 60 days to process your request
