My mom and I are going to NYC in April, and we want to see it up close. I know there is a place where you can buy tickets and walk almost directly on the place...does anyone know where that is? Also, I'd like to get some good pictures of it, does anyone have any recommendations of view points to get good pictures, (trying not to get construction equipment in the pictures, etc.) Thanks for any hints!

I want to see it because it has been on my mind for these past 6 years. I want to be able to tell my kids what it was like before the new buildings go up. I want to experience it for myself and not by some news commentator. I also want to be able to pay my respects for those lost. And I did find out that you can walk on the floor of Ground Zero. Thank you to the first poster for that website. =)

You can get all the way up to the site, the sidewalk surrounding the site, for free. But with all the construction going on, there is little chance of getting a photo without some construction equipment in the shot.

Both the NYCVP (that stella39 mentions) and the Tribute WTC Visitor Center walking tours are good values.

If you want a special experience…
Take the PATH Train from New Jersey INTO the World Trade Center Station.
Try to keep in mind that there is a long straight path (a bit more than a mile) from the Exchange Place station, under the river to the WTC. When the train begins to turn, look out the windows on the LEFT side of the train. This will give you the best view of the site from the INSIDE the site you can get with out being a construction worker. Keep in mind that the tracks are laid on the ground of ‘Ground Zero’.

You cannot go into the "hole". It's a construction site. There is a viewing platform, also you can go into the Winter Garden of the World Financial Center and get a view of the site.

It's going to be tough to not to get construction equiq. in the pictures though.

As far as I know, you can't buy tickets to go there. It has become a construction site, because they are going to build the Freedom Tower there. The closest you can get to it would be to go down into the PATH station, and look to your left.

Visit the September 11th tribute at St Paul's Chapel on Church and Fulton Streets; it's part of Trinity Church and is the oldest still in use church in New York. George Washington prayed here the day he was inaugurated; New York was the capital of the United States in 1789.

I will never understand the need some people have to go to so-called "Ground Zero." It's a construction site, okay? A concrete hole in the ground where once stood two of the tallest buildings in the world, a hotel, shopping complex, etc., etc. Something awful and terrible and historic happened there OVER FIVE YEARS AGO.

There is nothing to see there now. No reason to "visit." No tickets to buy. No rides. No attractions. No animated characters to snap your picture with. Nothing to walk around. No souvenir shops. No food court. No viewpoints. No good pictures to get. NOTHING! NOTHING AT ALL, DON'T YOU GET IT?

PEOPLE DIED THERE! HUMAN BEINGS WHO I WATCHED HURL THEMSELVES OUT OF WINDOWS 90 STORIES UP SO THEY DIDN'T BURN TO DEATH! AND YOU WANT TO GO TAKE PICTURES?! OF WHAT? WHY?

CHRIST ALMIGHTLY, NEW YORK HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER AND THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO? USE YOUR IMAGINATION INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING EVERY YOKEL DOWN THERE JUST SO YOU CAN TELL PEOPLE YOU WERE THERE.
